Cancer has a huge impact on people’s lives, and it is commonly believed to be more prevalent in old age, associated with weakened immunity and long-term accumulated factors. However, the latest medical research shows that besides the elderly, several specific age groups also face a high risk of cancer.

During childhood, as a stage that is not common but needs attention, children may encounter leukemia, Wilms’ tumor, and neuroblastoma, among others. Risk factors include genetic mutations, congenital diseases, and more. Parents can reduce risks by providing balanced diet, ensuring adequate sleep, moderate exercise, preventing infections, and avoiding harmful environmental factors.

Entering adolescence, especially between the ages of 20 and 24, lymphoma, reproductive system tumors, and osteosarcoma are more common. Unhealthy lifestyle habits, specific viral infections, and genetic factors are major contributors. Guiding teenagers to establish healthy lifestyles, get vaccinated, and have regular check-ups are crucial for prevention.

As for middle age, although cancer is more commonly associated with the elderly, this period is also a high-risk period. Lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer are more common, attributed to decreased cell repair capacity and weakened immune system. Middle-aged individuals can lower their risks through regular check-ups, healthy diet, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol intake, weight management, social engagement, and avoiding carcinogenic exposures.

Overall, childhood, adolescence, and middle age all face the challenge of high cancer incidence. Each age group needs targeted prevention and emphasis on early screening. By adopting healthy lifestyles and preventive measures, not only can the occurrence of cancer be reduced, but also the chances of early detection and treatment can be increased, building a solid defense line for public health.
