Illness enters through the mouth! Everyone loves to eat these parts of a chicken, but they are actually “poison.”

Must read

We often hear people say that chicken heads cannot be eaten, as all the toxins are in the head; chicken necks cannot be eaten because they have a lot of lymphatic fluid which is not beneficial to health; chicken backsides are too dirty and toxic to be eaten; chicken wing tips should not be eaten as that’s where injections are given; chicken feet soaked in chemicals for bleaching should not be eaten, and so on. This has left people confused about what to eat from a chicken, which parts are safe to eat and which are not?

1. Is chicken head poisonous?

Many people believe that chicken heads accumulate toxins as the chicken ingests harmful substances, but this is incorrect. Whatever the chicken eats goes through its digestive system to be processed and excreted, and toxins do not accumulate in the head. As long as the chicken is healthy, there is no issue with the chicken head.

2. Do chicken butts accumulate toxins?

Chicken butts are where chickens excrete waste, containing a lot of lymphatic tissues which can harbor harmful bacteria and viruses, making it unsuitable for consumption. This belief is correct, and people generally do not eat chicken butts, as they are usually discarded when preparing the chicken.

3. Are chicken wing tips injection spots?

Chicken wing tips are a favorite part for many, but there is a belief that it is where chickens are injected with medicines, leaving residues that can make people uneasy. However, this is incorrect. Injections are usually given in areas rich in subcutaneous tissues, often near the wing but not at the tip specifically.

There’s no need to worry; conventionally raised chickens are safe for consumption and do not pose a threat to health.

4. Does chicken neck have a lot of lymphatic fluid?

In animals like chickens, ducks, and pigs, the neck area indeed has rich lymphatic tissues which aid in detoxification. However, considering this as greatly toxic is a misconception. Detoxification organs do not inherently mean higher toxicity; if you are concerned, simply remove the skin when eating chicken or duck necks as lymphatic tissues are usually beneath the skin.

5. Do chicken innards contain a lot of heavy metals?

Chickens may consume substances, including heavy metals, while foraging, but this does not mean their innards are inedible. Safe parts to consume include the heart, gizzard, intestines, and liver. However, three parts that should be avoided are the spleen, lungs, and trachea due to various health risks.

6. Have chicken feet been bleached?

There are now many pickled chicken feet available in the market, with a tangy and spicy taste, enjoyed by many. However, news often reveals shady practices in their production, causing people to be wary of consuming them. It is safer to purchase chicken feet from reputable manufacturers, and avoid brightly bleached chicken feet.
