Microplastics can invade the brain? Doctors remind: Do not give these things to children.

Must read

As a pediatrician, I receive children and their parents from all walks of life every day, who enter my clinic laden with a desire for health and hope for the future. Recently, a study has caught my attention: microplastic pollution. This seemingly inconspicuous substance can penetrate our children’s brain barriers in just two hours! Reflecting on a case, a young girl sought medical help due to persistent headaches and declining academic performance. Initially thought to be due to academic stress, a deeper examination revealed a more complex truth – her plastic toys, which she often played with, were rich in microplastics. These particles silently eroded her health, a shocking revelation that warns us to address the hidden dangers of microplastics to children’s health.

Microplastics, this invisible threat, are actually omnipresent. They lurk in personal care products, float in the air, and even mix in our food. These tiny particles, ranging from millimeters to micrometers, carry chemicals that once infiltrate the body, may become a source of health hazards. Particularly concerning is the latest scientific research which shows that microplastics can quickly traverse the digestive system, reach the brain directly, affect the nervous system function, jeopardizing children’s learning and memory abilities, posing a significant risk to growing children.

Therefore, parents need to be vigilant, identifying the sources of microplastics in daily life. For example, brightly colored plastic toys and disposable plastic products, as well as plastic-packaged foods, are potential channels of microplastic exposure. Taking action is crucial:

– Choose eco-friendly toys and daily necessities, giving priority to products labeled “non-toxic” and “BPA-free,” avoiding overly bright colors. – Reduce the use of disposable plastics, opting for glass, stainless steel, or bamboo tableware, which are both eco-friendly and safe. – Increase the intake of fresh ingredients, reducing the purchase of processed foods and exquisitely packaged snacks, ensuring nutrition while minimizing exposure to microplastics. – Regular health check-ups are essential to promptly detect and address any potential effects of microplastics.

Every parent bears the mission of safeguarding their children’s health. Starting from the subtleties of daily life, each wise choice is an investment in the healthy growth of children. Let us join hands to create a purer, healthier living environment for children, keeping their childhood away from the shadows of microplastics, full of happiness and vitality.
