Depression hides in the gut, anxiety lurks in sleep, finding the root cause is not that difficult.

Must read

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, whether it is anxiety or depression, it reflects the imbalance of organ functions in the body.

To restore health, the key lies in resolving the inner stagnation and achieving the balance of yin and yang.

When depression is severe, symptoms manifest in the digestive system, causing loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and loss of desire to eat.

When anxiety is severe, it often manifests in sleep disturbances, making it difficult to fall asleep and leading to frequent dreaming.

If there are issues with the organs, specific symptoms must be diagnosed.

Irritability, anger, anxiety, dizziness, and heaviness in the head.

On one hand, it may be a personality issue, but mainly it indicates excessive liver yang.

The liver regulates the smooth flow of qi, controls emotions, and harmonizes the spirit and emotions of the body. When liver yang is excessive, qi stagnates and accumulates, leading to difficulty controlling emotions.

Excessive rising of liver qi disturbs brain function, resulting in dizziness and heaviness in the head.

Feeling low, melancholic, and frequently crying.

Such conditions are often due to liver qi stagnation, not just being overly sensitive.

When liver qi stagnation reaches a certain degree, it may signal the eyes to release tears as a way for the liver to self-regulate and relieve stress.

Nausea, vomiting, belching, acid reflux, and stomach pain.

These symptoms are closely related to poor daily diet habits and long-term mental stress, which may lead to dysfunction of the spleen and stomach.

The spleen is responsible for transforming fluids; once its function is compromised, symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, belching, and vomiting may occur.

Restlessness, racing thoughts, and difficulty focusing.

This indicates excessive heart fire. In traditional Chinese medicine, the heart governs the mind, overseeing important mental activities such as spirit, thoughts, memory, and emotions.

When there is excessive heart fire, inner tranquility is hard to maintain, leading to excessive nervousness, emotional instability, and affecting sleep quality.

This condition often occurs in patients under excessive mental stress and overthinking, largely due to excessive heart fire.

Insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, and frequent awakenings from dreams.

This phenomenon is common, with many patients dependent on melatonin, alprazolam, and other drugs. Once medication is stopped, insomnia can reoccur like a demon.

Usually caused by imbalance in yin and yang, excessive heart and liver fire, and stagnation of meridians. Without accurately identifying the root cause, no amount of tests or medications can cure the issue.

Whether it’s anxiety and depression stemming from liver qi stagnation, excessive heart fire, spleen-stomach dysfunction, or qi deficiency and blood stasis, once the root cause is identified, it is not difficult to completely eradicate.
