Traditional Chinese Medicine Interpretation of Hair Care and Hair Protection How to Properly Care for and Protect Your Hair

Must read

The growth of hair is closely linked to the overall health of the body, reflecting our general health status. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the health of the kidneys and liver directly affects the quality of hair. Strong kidney energy can maintain hair moisture and reduce hair loss; while adequate liver blood is the foundation for rapid hair growth and vibrant color, otherwise it may lead to graying, dryness, and hair loss.

When it comes to diet for nourishing hair, people often think of black sesame paste, walnuts, peanuts, and other nuts, believing that they benefit the kidneys and promote hair growth. However, the causes of hair loss are diverse, and kidney deficiency is just one of them, so not everyone is suitable for addressing hair loss issues through the consumption of walnuts, black sesame, etc.

For different constitutions and causes of hair loss, diet and nourishment strategies should vary: – For those with liver and kidney yin deficiency, showing extensive hair loss, dry hair quality, accompanied by symptoms like dizziness and insomnia, suitable foods include black sesame, black beans, longan, which nourish the liver and kidneys, nourish blood, and promote hair growth. – For those with deficiency of qi and blood, sparse hair, pale complexion, foods such as honey, dates, Chinese yam are beneficial for invigorating qi, nourishing blood, strengthening the spleen, and nourishing the heart. – For those with spleen deficiency and dampness accumulation, greasy hair and itchy scalp, foods like mung beans, adzuki beans, coix seed are recommended for invigorating the spleen and removing dampness.

When selecting shampoos with Chinese herbal ingredients, personal hair quality and constitution should be considered. For example, those with dry hair can choose ginseng shampoo for nourishment; elderly or prematurely graying hair individuals can use products containing Polygonum multiflorum to nourish blood, tonify kidneys, and darken hair; for oily hair types, soapnut shampoo is recommended to control oil and itching.

Correct hair washing and care steps are equally important: – It is advisable to try using conditioner before shampoo, especially for dry hair, as it can effectively protect the hair. – Avoid washing hair in the morning due to slower blood circulation, cold water stimulation may increase the burden on the heart, and wet hair when going out is susceptible to catching cold winds. – Wet hair with water before using shampoo to avoid direct application that may damage the hair roots. – Dry or blow dry hair promptly after washing to prevent the absorption of external dirt by the cuticle layer. – Conditioner should be applied after drying the hair and should not exceed 10 minutes in staying on the hair to ensure the best effect.

Through the above methods, we can comprehensively care for our hair, promote its healthy growth, and avoid potential problems caused by improper care.
