A man found chicken gizzard while killing a chicken. Can it really be used as medicine?

Must read

When Mr. Wei returned to his hometown to visit his family, his parents noticed that he had lost some weight, so they specially slaughtered a chicken to nourish him. However, during the process of cleaning the chicken’s innards, an unusual golden-yellow chunk caught the attention of Mr. Wei’s father, who immediately called his knowledgeable son to come and see. Mr. Wei immediately thought this could be a precious “chicken treasure,” so he quickly searched online and consulted with friends. His friend informed him that this was likely a rare and valuable chicken treasure. This news quickly spread, attracting people from all over who contacted Mr. Wei, wanting to purchase it. However, they all requested that Mr. Wei have it appraised by a professional organization to confirm its authenticity before proceeding with the transaction. Faced with this dilemma, Mr. Wei was torn between fearing a scam and his lack of certainty about the authenticity of this “chicken treasure” due to encountering such a situation for the first time.

When mentioning “chicken treasure,” people often compare it to bezoar stones from cows, dogs, horses, and consider them all rare substances found inside animals. Traditionally, bezoar stone from cows comes from the gallstones, used to treat diseases like madness, infantile convulsions, etc.; dog bezoar and horse bezoar respectively come from the stomach of dogs and intestines of horses. As for chicken treasure, it is generally believed to come from stones found in a chicken’s body, but unlike the widely recognized cow bezoar, the actual value and effects of chicken treasure are still in the scientific exploration stage.

There are various opinions in society about chicken treasure. Some firmly believe that chicken treasure is a precious medicinal material with a clear fragrance, bitter taste, and cooling properties, having special effects in regulating male premature ejaculation and female irregular menstruation. Other views suggest that in traditional Chinese medicine, chicken treasure has the function of dispersing wind, resolving depression, and detoxifying, effectively relieving symptoms like chest tightness and stomach discomfort. However, experts point out that chicken treasure may fundamentally be a chicken’s diseased ovary, and its medicinal value has not yet been authoritatively recognized, making its true value difficult to determine.

Given that the high cost of cow bezoar does not necessarily equate to the value of chicken treasure, the public should maintain a rational attitude towards chicken treasure to avoid unnecessary trouble. Proper understanding and evaluation of such so-called “treasures” are particularly important.
