Pregnancy diet: Pregnant women and postpartum women should not eat mooncakes too often.

Must read

During pregnancy, caution is advised when consuming cold drinks. Many expectant mothers prefer popsicles, ice cream, and various chilled beverages during their pregnancy, even in winter. However, this dietary habit may pose risks to maternal health and indirectly affect the fetus. Pregnant women’s digestive systems are more sensitive and can be stimulated by cold foods, potentially leading to weakened digestive functions, decreased appetite, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and stomach cramps; these discomforts may also impact the fetus.

For pregnant women who enjoy mooncakes, experts recommend pairing them with light fruits such as pomelo, peach, persimmon, or pear to alleviate potential discomfort caused by mooncakes.

Frequent consumption of cold drinks may also trigger sore throat, tonsillitis, cough, headaches, or even colds in pregnant women; these health issues can similarly pose potential threats to fetal safety. More directly, cold foods can stimulate the fetus, leading to excessive activity and frequent fetal movements, disrupting their normal rest and growth. Therefore, pregnant women should strictly limit their intake of cold drinks, preferably not exceeding once a week, and ideally avoid or consume them in small quantities.
