Must read

The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, it’s time to enjoy reunion and delicious mooncakes. As a popular choice, snow skin mooncakes not only have a unique taste but also a fun making process. Below is a brief introduction to the method of making homemade snow skin mooncakes.

In the preparation stage, take two spoonfuls of sago into a bowl, add a spoonful of white sugar, then pour in warm water, enough to cover the sago, to promote quick softening. After about 20 minutes of waiting, when the sago has fully absorbed water and expanded, crush it into a fine sago paste.

Next, mix a spoonful of glutinous rice flour into the sago paste, carefully knead until it forms a smooth dough. Then, divide the large dough into several small pieces, each piece should be suitable for the mooncake mold.

Take a piece of dough, gently roll it flat with a rolling pin, embed your favorite filling in the center, such as fruit or purple sweet potatoes, then carefully wrap it to ensure the filling is evenly covered by the dough.

Using the mooncake mold, place the dough with the filling into it, gently press to shape. After unmolding, delicate snow skin mooncakes will appear before you.

The final step is to steam the shaped mooncakes in a steamer over medium heat for about 15 minutes. This step will make the mooncake skin more translucent and ensure the filling is fully cooked, blending the flavors.

Once steamed, the snow skin mooncakes are ready. Not only can they be enjoyed immediately, but the taste after being chilled is even more unique. Making mooncakes by hand can not only add fun to the festival but also add your personal unique touch to this traditional delicacy.
