Will eating mooncakes during the postpartum period affect the baby?

Must read

During the postpartum period, commonly known as confinement, is an important stage for new mothers to recover physically. During this period, consuming mooncakes in moderation will not have adverse effects on the baby, but overeating should be avoided. Mooncakes are rich in sugar, protein, as well as high-fat nuts like sesame, almonds, walnuts, so consuming them in moderation can provide necessary nutrition and energy for new mothers and quickly relieve hunger.

However, due to its high sugar and high cholesterol content, excessive consumption of mooncakes may pose health risks. For new mothers, excessive sugar intake may lead to elevated blood sugar levels, causing symptoms of high blood sugar such as weight loss. At the same time, high cholesterol intake may increase the fat content in breast milk during lactation, indirectly affecting the baby and leading to issues like diarrhea or indigestion.

Therefore, it is recommended that new mothers during the postpartum period pay attention to balanced diet besides enjoying mooncakes, consume more vegetables and fruits, engage in moderate exercise, ensure sufficient sleep, maintain a good mental state to promote their own and the baby’s health.
