The words “depression” have become part of everyone’s life? The death of celebrities has made people realize that depression can really make a person voluntarily give up their life. In fact, as early as 2017, the World Health Organization reported that every year, 800,000 people commit suicide due to depression, and there are many people suffering from depression in life, even more than imagined.

There are many factors that contribute to depression, one of which is excessive stress. However, everyone faces stress, with some burdened by mortgages, car loans, etc., yet they do not experience depression. However, under the same pressure, some people become depressed, mainly due to different personalities. In general, there are two types of people who are more prone to depression, and families must be vigilant.

What are the two types of personalities prone to depression?

The first type, those lacking a sense of security. As the number of depressed individuals has increased in recent years, investigations have been conducted. It was found that individuals with depression share a common trait of lacking a sense of security and being very suspicious. These individuals often appear “kind,” seemingly non-threatening, very obedient, acting cautiously, afraid of displeasing others. Once dissatisfaction is expressed by others, this group of people falls into deep self-doubt, believing they have no value, which can lead to depression if this state continues.

The second type, those who excessively pursue perfection. Some individuals in life make others feel exhausted. They are very competitive, often setting very high goals for themselves. Failing to achieve these goals can lead to intense sadness and shame. Perhaps you have encountered such individuals, as I have, where a classmate set the goal of being in the top three of the class. Due to poor grades, this classmate punished themselves. A broken ruler left bloody marks on the skin, a shocking sight for onlookers. Individuals like this are often prone to depression.

Many parents may think depression is just a bad mood, but due to lack of understanding and attention, tragedies occur. Depression is a real issue that should be taken seriously. If family members exhibit these two types of personalities, they should be observed and paid attention to more. When emotions are low, offer more understanding to prevent accidents.

In addition to these two personalities, feeling constantly lonely is also a factor in depression. Those who feel lonely may believe that the whole world is rejecting them, gradually falling into a state of depression. Those who often feel lonely should develop their interests and hobbies, engage in activities they enjoy to bring happiness. When feeling lonely, talking more with friends and family, even through phone or video calls, can help.

When feeling down, try to be active; exercising can help release pent-up emotions, creating a sense of joy and aiding in mood adjustment. Many depressed individuals may not want to confide in those around them, in such cases seeking help from a doctor can help alleviate emotions. Although living conditions are improving, the pressure is increasing as well. Learning to release stress, regulate mood, and face everything with a calm mindset can help avoid falling into the emotions of depression.
