Must read

Do you have the habit of shaking your legs? We will find that there is a group of people in life who can’t help but shake their legs as soon as they sit down. Shaking legs may feel great for oneself, but it can be annoying to others, so shaking legs has always been viewed as a bad habit. There is a saying that goes “shaky legs indicate poverty,” meaning that shaking legs is a display of lack of manners. Many people may have developed the habit of shaking legs as a bad habit over time, but it’s not that simple. So why do some people shake their legs frequently?

Why do some people shake their legs frequently?

Shaking legs may seem like a simple action, but it actually reflects a person’s psychological issues. There are people who are naturally lively, cheerful, optimistic, and lead a positive life. When in good spirits, comfortable environments, or when contemplating problems, these people can’t help but shake their legs. When they shake their legs, it mainly conveys a sense of joy.

Then, there are individuals who lack confidence and are always worried about not doing things well, not completing tasks, or not meeting their expectations, leading to anxiety when performing a task. When experiencing psychological anxiety, more blood flows towards the thighs, thus causing leg shaking. For example, some people can’t help but shake their legs when they are worried about doing poorly in exams. In this case, shaking legs serves to ease their anxious and tense emotions.

Additionally, some people shake their legs without any specific reason – neither due to happiness nor anxiety; they simply enjoy shaking their legs as soon as they sit down. This indicates that they have unknowingly formed the habit of shaking legs and are compelling themselves to shake their legs continuously, suggesting a tendency towards compulsion.

Furthermore, there are individuals who shake their legs not due to psychological issues but because of physical problems. When there are issues related to the lumbar spine, people unconsciously shake their legs. Apart from leg shaking, they might also experience hand tremors, uncontrollable blinking, and an overall loss of control over their bodies. If you can’t resist shaking your legs and often experience lower back discomfort, it’s important to pay attention to this.

If a person has an unbalanced diet, leading to a lack of iron in the body, they may frequently shake their legs. When lacking iron, they not only shake their legs but might also have a pale complexion, cold hands and feet, and women may experience irregular menstrual cycles. If you uncontrollably shake your legs and experience these symptoms, you may need to supplement iron.

If middle-aged or elderly individuals frequently and uncontrollably shake their legs, they may be suffering from restless legs syndrome. The main symptom of this condition is uncontrollable leg shaking, a vague discomfort in the calves during the night or when sitting quietly, prompting individuals to shake their legs to alleviate this discomfort.

In fact, if you are not disturbing others and occasionally shake your legs, it can be beneficial for your health. Why is that? Because many individuals nowadays sit for long periods, which can slow down blood circulation. Shaking your legs at appropriate times can promote blood circulation and help with blood flow, offering slight health benefits.

However, shaking legs is generally considered an annoying bad habit. If you want to overcome this habit, when you feel the urge to shake your legs, you can take a few deep breaths to calm yourself. The more deep breaths you take, the less you will feel the urge to shake your legs. Additionally, when you feel the urge to shake your legs, you can stand up and take a walk, as this can boost overall blood circulation. After standing or walking a bit, you may notice that you don’t feel the need to shake your legs anymore.
