About the anterior placenta, knowing these five points is enough! Pregnant mothers benefit from understanding in advance.

Must read

During the pregnancy, which is a journey full of surprises and challenges, every expectant mother is like a brave explorer, carefully guarding the little life in her belly.

However, this journey also holds some little secrets, such as the protagonist we are going to talk about today – placenta previa. Don’t worry, let’s uncover its truth in a relaxed manner together.

I. What is placenta previa?

Imagine the uterus as the baby’s little house, and the placenta is like the backyard of this house, responsible for delivering nutrients and oxygen to the baby. Normally, this backyard is securely built on the back wall, front wall, or side wall of the house.

But sometimes, it may mischievously run to the front door of the house or even block the door directly, and that’s placenta previa.

In simple terms, the placenta grows in the wrong position, running to the lower segment of the uterus, and even covering the internal opening of the cervix.

II. The “four sisters” of placenta previa

Placenta previa is not fighting alone; it has four “sisters”: complete placenta previa, partial placenta previa, marginal placenta previa, and low-lying placenta.

Complete placenta previa is the most mischievous, directly blocking the internal opening of the cervix;

Partial placenta previa is a bit more restrained, only blocking half of it;

Marginal placenta previa is the most “marginal”, although close to the front door, it has not completely blocked it;

Low-lying placenta mainly in the lower segment of the uterus, but the edge does not reach the cervical opening, the distance is about less than 2 cm.

III. The “troublesome daily life” of placenta previa

Placenta previa is not well-behaved, especially in the late pregnancy. It may cause expectant mothers to bleed repeatedly for no reason, and it’s painless bleeding. The initial amount of bleeding is generally not much, but if not taken care of, the bleeding amount may gradually increase, and in severe cases, it may endanger the safety of both mother and baby.

IV. Why does placenta previa occur?

The cause of placenta previa is still a mystery, but there are several “suspects” that are often mentioned: advanced maternal age, history of multiple abortions, history of cesarean section, multiple pregnancies, etc.

Advanced maternal age is like an experienced explorer, the body may no longer be as “strong and youthful”; while multiple abortions and cesarean sections are like “scars” on the uterine wall, making it easier for the placenta to find a “breakthrough.”

V. How to deal with placenta previa

1. Reduce physical activity

Since the placenta is in the wrong position, try to minimize “disturbing” it, avoid vigorous exercise, such as squatting, lifting heavy objects, prolonged standing or sitting, even be gentle when exerting force during bowel movements and coughing.

2. Rest on the left side

Adopt a left-side sleeping position, not only to reduce the pressure of the uterus on the inferior vena cava, but also to allow the baby to receive more oxygen and nutrients.

3. Maintain hygiene

Placenta previa is prone to infection, so pay special attention to personal hygiene, change underwear frequently, and keep the external genital area clean.

4. Balanced diet

Eat more foods rich in iron and zinc, such as red dates, lean meat, animal liver, etc., to prevent anemia. At the same time, increase the intake of vegetables and fruits to prevent constipation.

5. Relax

Anxious and stressful emotions are not good for the baby and expectant mother. Maintain a positive mood, go out for walks, listen to music, talk to the baby, and enjoy this wonderful time of pregnancy.

6. Regular prenatal check-ups

Most importantly, regular prenatal check-ups are essential, closely monitor changes in placental position. If you experience symptoms such as bleeding or abdominal pain, seek medical attention immediately.

Placenta previa, although a “little trouble” during pregnancy, can be better dealt with once understood. With the help of doctors and family, you can smoothly navigate through this unique journey and welcome the arrival of a healthy baby.
