After marriage, the man discovered that his wife could not have children, and he felt conflicted about what choice to make: I am the only son in the family.

Must read

Some say that a family without children cannot go very far, and others say that a mother without children has an imperfect life.

However, this perspective does not apply to everyone. In today’s society, more and more people choose not to have children or to postpone having children because they wish to pursue their careers, travel, and enjoy life. These individuals believe that the value of life should not solely depend on whether or not one has children, but rather should be found in personal choices and pursuits that bring satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.

Recently, a man in Henan has been filled with sadness because, freshly married and still basking in the passion of romance, he finds himself troubled by the pressure to carry on the family line, feeling lost and helpless, he can only pin his hopes on the observers in this situation.

It is reported that the man, who had just married, met his wife through a blind date. Due to their similar values and interests, the couple quickly got married in a short period of time.

In rural areas, if a young couple does not conceive after a long time of marriage, many rumors and gossip begin to circulate in the village. Although the man and his wife do not mind, in the eyes of their in-laws, this matter cannot be taken lightly.

After several months of marriage without pregnancy, the young couple, filled with various doubts, decided to visit the hospital for an examination. However, when the results emerged, the man was suddenly at a loss for how to proceed.

It turns out that the reason his wife had not become pregnant since their marriage was due to her own health issue. Although the doctor did not specify what caused the problem, the man clearly began to overthink the situation.

The man is the only son in his family, and in rural areas, carrying on the family line is more important than anything else. If his wife cannot conceive, then not only will he have trouble explaining it to his parents, but his wife will also face difficulties with her in-laws.

Divorce? The man is reluctant; after all, there are no emotional problems between the two, and ending the relationship over this matter seems unreasonable. Yet, if they don’t divorce, he also struggles to explain the situation to his parents. This dilemma leaves him in a state of distress.

A couple, a family—can they really not go far without children?

Clearly, in the man’s family, this issue holds significant weight, especially in rural areas, where if a bride cannot bear children, the marriage is unlikely to last.

If a woman did not focus on her personal life before marriage, resulting in health issues that prevent her from conceiving, then it’s unlikely that any man would be willing to stay with her without seeking divorce. However, if the issue is congenital, then the situation takes on a different consideration entirely.

In dealing with the former, letting go promptly is the best protection for oneself, but for the latter, deeper reflection is required.

Putting oneself in the man’s shoes, if the issue is due to his health, would he hope his wife leave him in search of a “normal” person to start a family with, or would he prefer her to stay and share a life filled with only love?

In reality, regardless of whether one has children or not, there will always be regrets in life, because what is unattainable tends to be the most desired.

Between couples, how can life be smooth-sailing? As long as the difficulties are not caused by each other, shouldn’t both partners face all challenges together? If they choose to evade difficulty, what can be said about their relationship?

Therefore, we should respect everyone’s choices and refrain from using parenthood as a measure of one’s value. Everyone should pursue what they deem important and meaningful, instead of being bound by traditional views. Ultimately, whether life is perfect or not should be defined and realized by oneself.
