Can hepatitis B patients have sexual intercourse? Doctors: By taking care of four small details, the risk of infection can be reduced

Must read

Hepatitis B is one of the more common diseases, and it is highly infectious. The three main transmission routes include blood, mother-to-child, and sexual contact. Consequently, some patients diagnosed with hepatitis B are afraid to engage in marital relations, fearing virus transmission to their partners.

This fear may inevitably affect the relationship between spouses and may even lead to reproductive diseases. However, doctors emphasize that having hepatitis B does not mean one cannot engage in marital relations. By paying attention to the following four details, normal marital activities are possible.

1. Use of condoms

Hepatitis B can be transmitted through marital activities for two reasons. Firstly, the hepatitis B virus can be present in sperm and vaginal secretions, and there is a possibility of abrasions during intercourse leading to the exchange of blood, making it easier to contract the virus. Therefore, the most direct and effective method is to use condoms.

2. Avoid prolonged kissing

In good health, the human body contains antibodies. However, saliva and secretions from hepatitis B patients contain the virus. Prolonged kissing may lead to virus transmission. Especially in cases of careless intensity causing oral lesions, the virus can enter the partner’s body through these lesions, resulting in serious infection consequences.

3. Limit marital activities

Excessive and frequent marital activities not only deplete the physical energy of hepatitis B patients but also increase the risk of infection. Therefore, during hepatitis B infection, it is advisable to avoid frequent marital activities.

4. Receive hepatitis B vaccination

In addition to avoiding hepatitis B virus infection, receiving the hepatitis B vaccine and checking for the presence of antibodies in the body are essential. If antibody levels are low, a booster vaccine should be administered.

Of course, to prevent hepatitis B virus infection, attention to certain aspects during marital activities is necessary. Similarly, preventive measures should be taken in daily life.

1. Eliminate sources of infection

If someone in the household has hepatitis B, they should be isolated from others, especially during the recovery period. Avoid sharing utensils and personal hygiene items with the infected person and maintain cleanliness at home to prevent saliva and secretion contamination.

2. Wash hands frequently

In daily life, it is crucial to develop the habit of washing hands frequently, especially after using public restrooms. Thoroughly clean hands with soap to avoid actions like rubbing eyes or squeezing pimples.

3. Ensure balanced nutrition

Weakened immunity makes individuals more susceptible to hepatitis B virus infection. Therefore, it is essential to focus on balanced nutrition, such as consuming fresh fruits and vegetables rich in essential micronutrients, minerals, and vitamins to enhance immunity.

4. Avoid marital activities during the acute phase

Whether it is acute or chronic viral hepatitis, the hepatitis B virus is more active and infectious during the acute phase. Engaging in marital activities during this period significantly increases the risk of viral infection.

In conclusion, although hepatitis B is a highly contagious disease, including through sexual transmission, it does not mean that hepatitis B patients cannot engage in marital activities. On the contrary, by paying attention to the four details mentioned above during marital activities, the risk of contracting the hepatitis B virus can be reduced. Therefore, it is hoped that hepatitis B patients can understand and follow targeted preventive measures, actively seek treatment, which will benefit both themselves and their families.
