Female college student sells eggs for money, doctor: “Crying in pain” is not the biggest danger, you could die at any time
Linlin is a female college student, and she never expected that the hard-earned 35,000 yuan from her part-time job would be spent on miscellaneous medical expenses.
21-year-old college student Linlin took “egg selling” as a part-time job, believing that “girls ovulate every month, and if they don’t have children, it’s a waste”.
Other than feeling a little scared during the egg retrieval process and experiencing back pain for a few days afterwards, she thought it didn’t have much impact on her body. Being able to earn money with her own eggs, she thought it “wasn’t a bad thing,” and even felt very happy when buying the latest model of a cell phone.
As time went on, Linlin found that her abdomen would ache from time to time and her menstruation became irregular. Initially, she didn’t pay much attention, thinking it was just a normal side effect after egg retrieval. But when she noticed her belly getting bigger, having dull aches, and experiencing intense pain intermittently, she realized she needed to go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
After the doctor’s examination and diagnosis, it was required that Linlin must be hospitalized immediately. She had nearly 5000 milliliters of ascites in her abdomen, caused by unqualified medical procedures leading to abdominal infection and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. That was the hospital’s diagnosis, and the treatment cost three thousand yuan.
“The surgery was done without anesthesia, and there was significant bleeding. I cried in pain,” regretted Lily as she approached the brink of death. Subsequently, she developed various health issues and had to be hospitalized for a long time in a legitimate hospital, and all the money earned from “egg selling” turned into medical expenses.
“Donating eggs is the most regrettable thing I have ever done,” Linlin self-deprecatingly said.
Illegal egg retrieval – luring female college students into the “black market”
Youthful, high-quality, unmarried, economically dependent – it is exactly these “qualities” that illegal reproductive agencies are targeting as more and more of them extend their “black hands” towards them.
Around universities, one can often see small advertisements like “Donate eggs out of love, earning over ten thousand a month,” “Minimally invasive painless egg retrieval,” in food streets, small hotels, medical institutions, and public toilets.
An investigation by the Economic Reference Daily found that the price of selling eggs varies between ten thousand and thirty thousand yuan based on age, education, and appearance of females aged 17 to 28. Luring female college students to sell eggs is just the first step in the entire “black market” chain, with even more horrifying illegal activities at the back end.
What is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome?
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, primarily a complication of assisted reproductive technology, is a syndrome where the human body overreacts due to ovulation stimulation, egg retrieval, and transplantation, causing changes in ovarian morphology and excessive production of ovarian hormones leading to a syndrome. It’s even worse for black market egg selling!
The symptoms include enlarged ovarian cysts, increased capillary permeability, fluid leakage from blood vessels, with mild cases being asymptomatic or showing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, abdominal distention, diarrhea; severe cases can have ascites, thrombosis, liver and kidney damage, difficult breathing, and even death.
Currently, there is a lack of targeted effective treatment for this disease, hence prevention is crucial.
The dangers of illegal egg retrieval must be taken seriously by girls
– Causing ovarian ischemic necrosis
During illegal egg retrieval, there is a 1% chance of causing ovarian torsion, which cuts off blood supply to the ovary, leading to rapid ovarian ischemic necrosis, ultimately resulting in the removal of the ovary and fallopian tube.
This leads to the loss of fertility in women, accelerating aging and causing huge harm to women’s health.
– Infertility
A woman is incomplete if she is infertile and unable to have children, even though many young girls who sell eggs feel that it’s just a little painful and will be fine after some time, not much different from normal people, but their body structure has undergone significant changes.
During egg retrieval, a long and sharp needle is used to penetrate the vaginal wall, then directly pierce the ovary to suck out the eggs one by one, a terrifying process as the ovaries are close to vital female organs, including the uterus, colon, bladder, and some blood vessels.
If there is any problem, it could lead to massive bleeding and death, or even milder cases can result in infertility.
– Endangering life
Underground egg retrieval solely focuses on the quantity of eggs, disregarding the impact of egg donation on women’s health, as the administered ovulation-inducing drugs can cause menstrual disorders and increase the risk of ovarian cancer.
Additionally, prematurely depleting egg reserves can lead to early menopause, premature ovarian failure, and more dangerously, can trigger ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, blood clots, multiple organ failure, and even life-threatening situations.
Young women should also be cautioned here:
Moderate and rational consumption is necessary. Selling eggs for money, or even engaging in more serious illegal acts due to financial needs, should be avoided at all costs.
Furthermore, no trade, no harm. Further regulation of assisted reproductive technology, supervision and crackdown on unscrupulous institutions and intermediaries, increasing punitive measures to eliminate such black market transactions, is an issue that should be taken seriously.
