“Doctor, my wife is bleeding!” On the evening of Qixi Festival, a young couple sought medical help urgently.

This morning, after learning the details, Dr. Zhao Qing from the Health Station of Tide News Qianbao and the Reproductive Health Consultation Clinic at the Dinglan Street Community Health Service in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, couldn’t help but sigh. She recalled how the couple had enthusiastically registered at the clinic a few days ago and now regretfully lowered her head and said, “In the end, they couldn’t save the child, which was related to various reasons. Overall, both the husband and the wife are responsible.”

Dr. Zhao Qing recalled that Mrs. Xu (alias) at seven weeks of pregnancy had noticed an increase in vaginal discharge before registering, but as she had no other discomforts at the time, she didn’t pay much attention to it.

Subsequently, Dr. Zhao Qing recommended that Mrs. Xu undergo a vaginal secretion test, which included testing for Chlamydia trachomatis DNA, Mycoplasma hominis DNA, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA. The results showed positive for Mycoplasma hominis, indicating the possibility of genital Mycoplasma infection, requiring medical treatment.

“Genital Mycoplasma infection in adults is mainly related to sexual activity,” explained Dr. Zhao Qing. In men, the infection can further lead to secondary chronic prostatitis, affecting sperm quality; while in women, when infected, most show no obvious symptoms and may only experience symptoms like frequent urination, urgency, and increased vaginal discharge.

Thinking it wasn’t a big issue, the couple, Mr. And Mrs. Xu, didn’t pay much attention to it. Just yesterday happened to be the annual Qixi Festival, and they wanted to have a “romantic” time, but ended up spending the night in the hospital, deeply regretting their decision.

Dr. Zhao Qing specifically reminded that it’s not advisable for women to engage in sexual activity during early and late pregnancy. In addition, personal hygiene should be observed before and after intercourse, as failing to do so could lead to one person being affected, resulting in harm to both. Mrs. Xu’s story serves as a warning to many. Moreover, for couples who are already pregnant or planning to conceive, if you have any doubts, please consult the reproductive health clinic as early as possible.
