How is unmarried HPV testing done

Must read

Unmarried women usually undergo HPV testing depending on whether they have had sexual intercourse. If there is no sexual activity, HPV testing is typically not necessary as HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, and the probability of HPV infection in women without sexual activity is very low. Traditionally in China, vaginal examinations are not conducted for women without sexual activity. Therefore, unmarried girls without sexual activity generally do not need HPV testing.

The process of HPV testing typically involves a doctor gently opening the vagina with a speculum to expose the cervix, then using a small brush to collect cervical cells for testing. These cells are sent for analysis to detect the presence of HPV virus particles. If the test results indicate the presence of virus particles, it suggests HPV infection.

For married or sexually active women, it is generally recommended to undergo co-testing of TCT (cytology) and HPV after 1 year of sexual activity, provided that financial conditions allow it, especially for women over 30 years old. The Chinese cervical cancer screening guidelines recommend high-risk HPV nucleic acid testing as the primary screening method for cervical cancer and the use of HPV nucleic acid testing methods and reagents that are approved by authoritative domestic and foreign institutions and clinically validated for primary screening.

In conclusion, HPV testing is generally not considered for unmarried women without sexual activity. For sexually active women, especially those over 30 years old, regular HPV screening is recommended.
