“It’s embarrassing to tell others about this issue, trying to tough it out and hope it will pass away…”

“I’ve been to many hospitals, spent a lot of money in vain, and don’t know what to do anymore…”

Prostatitis, a hidden problem troubling many male compatriots, let’s dig deep into it today!

Pay attention to these symptoms

Be on guard against prostatitis targeting you

Prostatitis refers to the inflammatory disease of the prostate caused by pathogen infection and/or certain non-infectious factors. It mainly manifests in two aspects:

Urethral irritation symptoms: frequent urination, urgency, dysuria, abnormal urination, and “white drips” at the urethral opening.

Local discomfort symptoms: may experience aching in the perineum, a sense of heaviness and pain in the testicles, a feeling of fullness and pain in the lower abdomen and groin area, and a burning sensation in the anus.

Prostatitis

Why does it “favor” young people?

The prostate is the largest accessory gland in males. During the youth and prime years, it is the high incidence period of acute and chronic prostatitis, mainly due to two aspects:

On the one hand, unhealthy lifestyle habits play a role. The youth and prime years are a period of vigorous male sexual function. Irregular sexual activity, abstinence or excess, prolonged sitting, alcohol consumption can cause prostate congestion, leading to inflammation. Moreover, smoking also easily triggers prostatitis.

On the other hand, the youth and prime years are also the period of most active prostate secretion, providing a favorable environment for bacterial growth and reproduction. If coupled with poor personal hygiene, low body resistance, or infections in adjacent areas (such as the urethra), pathogens can enter the prostate, leading to acute or chronic inflammation.

Is prostatitis a sexually transmitted disease?

Is it contagious?

The vast majority of prostatitis cases are not classified as sexually transmitted diseases and do not transmit to sexual partners. Many chronic prostatitis patients do not have pathogenic infections, let alone spreading through sexual activity or becoming sexually transmitted diseases.

However, there are exceptions; a small number of prostatitis cases are caused by infections such as gonorrhea, mycoplasma, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, or fungi, clinically known as specific prostatitis and fall into the category of sexually transmitted diseases. These infections may be transmitted to female partners during sexual activity, leading to various vaginal inflammations.

In the early treatment stages of such prostatitis, sexual activity should be avoided. Female counterparts should also visit gynecology or dermatology clinics for examination. If the female is also infected, both partners should receive treatment simultaneously.

Several methods to improve male prostate health

Dr. Wang reminds us that prostatitis, like a “cold,” is just a “common disease” in a “special area” and can be cured. However, it is prone to recurrence, and patients need timely treatment and prevention.

Regular exercise

Strengthen exercises for the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks to provide prostate massage and promote prostate health.

Stay hydrated

Drinking plenty of water promotes frequent urination, effectively dilutes urine concentration. Concentrated urine can irritate the prostate.

Avoid holding urine

As soon as the bladder is full and you feel the urge to urinate, you should relieve yourself. Holding urine is harmful to the bladder and prostate.

Avoid spicy foods

Consuming too many spicy foods, smoking, and drinking alcohol are also reasons for prostatitis.

Avoid prolonged sitting

Sitting for a long time, like holding urine, can hinder local blood circulation and lead to metabolic waste accumulation. Therefore, it is recommended to stand up and move around for a few minutes every hour of work.

Control sexual activity

During the sexually active youth period, moderate and regular sexual intercourse or masturbation can help expel prostatic fluid, relieve prostatic congestion, improve local blood circulation, and promote the absorption and dissipation of inflammation.

Regular hygiene practices

Develop a habit of regularly cleaning the perineal area to maintain cleanliness and dryness, prevent retrograde infections, and prevent prostatitis.

Early diagnosis and treatment

Chronic prostatitis, urethritis, cystitis, and epididymitis, and other urological diseases should be promptly and thoroughly treated.
