In the cognition of most people, menopause is often closely associated with women, but in reality, men also go through a physiological stage known as “male menopause” or “late-onset hypogonadism.” Although the symptoms of male menopause are not as prominent and widespread as those of women, some men may experience a series of emotional and behavioral changes during this period, with mania being particularly noteworthy.
Mood swings and irritability: Men in a manic state during menopause may experience abnormally high emotions, easily becoming enraged over trivial matters, showing extreme irritability and impatience. They may struggle to control their emotions, be overly sensitive to the words and actions of others, and may even exhibit aggressive behavior.
Energetic but unable to focus: While patients feel energetic, this energy often cannot be effectively converted into practical actions or creative work. They may engage in excessive activity, but have difficulty concentrating, experience scattered thoughts, and struggle to complete tasks that require prolonged focus.
Overinflated self-esteem: During a manic episode, male patients may have unrealistic overinflated evaluations of their own abilities and achievements, displaying an arrogant, self-important, or even arrogant attitude.
Reduced need for sleep: Contrary to common belief, patients with mania often do not require a lot of sleep. They feel energized all night, find it difficult to fall asleep or wake up early, leading to a decline in sleep quality.
Impulsive behavior and increased risk: Patients are more likely to make impulsive decisions and engage in high-risk activities. These behaviors often do not consider consequences, posing potential dangers to the patients and those around them.
Mania in men during menopause is a psychological problem that requires attention and recognition. Through comprehensive therapy and positive lifestyle adjustments, patients can effectively alleviate symptoms, improve their quality of life, and smoothly navigate through this special period.
