The kidney is a very important organ in the human body. It helps the body excrete waste and toxins, maintains the stability of the internal environment, ensures normal metabolism, and is particularly important for men as it relates to fertility and overall health. How can you know the health status of your kidneys? Let’s find out together.

Men with poor kidney health may have 5 “hints” on their faces. If you don’t have any of these, rejoice:

1. Dark brown patches on the cheeks. The kidneys are located on either side of our waist, corresponding to our cheeks. If dark brown patches appear on the sides of your face, it may indicate an issue with the detoxification function of the kidneys. When the kidneys are damaged, it can manifest on the face.

2. Lethargy. The kidneys store essence, which can be converted into kidney qi, the body’s energy source. People with sufficient kidney qi tend to have a good mental state. Kidney damage can lead to insufficient kidney qi, resulting in lethargy. So, if you feel energetic and vibrant, your kidneys are likely healthy. Conversely, feeling tired and weak may indicate kidney damage and insufficient kidney qi.

3. Persistent eye swelling. Waking up with swollen eyes is common, but if the swelling persists, it could signal kidney issues. The kidneys regulate body fluids, and kidney problems can lead to edema, frequent urination, and urgency. If your eyes are not swelling in the morning or any swelling subsides quickly, your kidneys are likely healthy.

4. Thinning and premature graying of hair. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the kidneys govern hair health. Healthy kidneys result in lustrous, dark hair, while kidney issues can lead to sparse, dry, graying, or hair loss. Pay attention to your kidney health to prevent kidney deficiency.

5. Unusual pupil color. Abnormal pupil color can indicate kidney health changes. If pupils suddenly appear dull, with less black and more white, it could be a sign of kidney deficiency. Additionally, yellowing eyes may signal liver and kidney issues. These symptoms shouldn’t be ignored as they could indicate an underlying health condition.
