Recently, the Guangxi Center for Disease Control announced plans to conduct a Phase III clinical trial for a 9-valent HPV vaccine for males in September.
The trial involves a domestically produced nine-valent vaccine, which aims to recruit 500 male volunteers aged 18 to 45 and will follow them up over the course of 6 years.
On August 25, several clinical experts stated in interviews that from the perspectives of herd immunity and disease prevention, it is very necessary for males to receive the HPV vaccine. After verifying the indications domestically, it is inevitable that the vaccination of males for HPV will be authorized.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common pathogens in sexually transmitted diseases and is one of the four major recognized carcinogenic pathogens in the world. For a long time, it has been believed that HPV vaccines are mainly related to women’s health. In fact, men are the primary carriers of the HPV virus and can also develop other diseases as a result of HPV infection.
It is understood that after male infection with HPV, various tumors can arise, including genital warts, ** cancer, and ** cancer, which can also reduce sperm vitality and affect fertility. Previously, according to a report from the French newspaper Le Monde, a study showed that HPV affects nearly one-third of men globally. About one-third of males over 15 years old may be infected with at least one type of this virus. About one-fifth of men are carriers of high-risk (cancer-causing) HPV viruses.
Currently, regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, as well as Hong Kong and Macau in our country have opened up the vaccination of males with the nine-valent HPV vaccine.
It is reported that multiple HPV vaccines have already launched clinical trials in male populations domestically.
