Orchitis, will it also deplete your “essence” on one side?

Must read

In recent years, the name epididymitis seems to be appearing more frequently in men’s health check reports. Many men are informed during check-ups that they have epididymitis, especially unilateral epididymitis, which makes them worry: “Will epididymitis empty my ‘essence’?”

Can unilateral epididymitis cause azoospermia?

For male fertility, the epididymis plays an indispensable role. The epididymis is not only the passage for sperm but also an important site for sperm development and maturation. Therefore, epididymitis, as a common infectious disease of the male reproductive system, should not be underestimated for its impact on male fertility.

Unilateral epididymitis refers to inflammation occurring only on one side of the epididymis. In such a case, does this condition lead to azoospermia? According to medical research, unilateral epididymitis itself does not directly cause azoospermia, but it may indeed have a certain adverse effect on overall fertility.

Unilateral epididymitis will inevitably lead to a decrease in the function of the affected epididymis, resulting in a decline in overall semen quality. Additionally, local inflammation may also increase the rate of sperm abnormalities, leading to a decrease in embryo quality. These factors can adversely affect conception.

In addition to a decrease in sperm quality, unilateral epididymitis may also affect the function of the contralateral testicle and epididymis through vascular traffic. The transverse spread of toxins and metabolites between sides may cause damage to both reproductive organs simultaneously. Therefore, even unilateral epididymitis should be taken seriously.

Therefore, before the inflammation is completely cured, it is best to temporarily avoid planning for pregnancy to avoid causing greater damage to fertility. Once epididymitis is thoroughly treated, considering reproduction will be more appropriate. Only in this way can male fertility be maximally protected.

How should unilateral epididymitis be treated?

1. Medical treatment. Doctors often prescribe antibacterial drugs such as amoxicillin capsules, levofloxacin tablets, etc., to inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, alleviate inflammation, and create favorable conditions for sperm recovery. For patients with inadequate response to antibiotic treatment, traditional Chinese medicine can also be considered for treatment, such as Li Xiaoping Diuretic Anti-inflammatory Pills, to reduce inflammation in the epididymis area.

2. Surgical treatment. The main purpose of surgery is to remove the inflammatory tissue inside the epididymis, repair the anatomical structure, and restore the physiological function of the epididymis. After surgery, patients need to rest and avoid strenuous exercise or stimulating activities like sexual intercourse.

3. Lifestyle adjustments. First and foremost, it is important to maintain local hygiene, change underwear frequently, and avoid bacterial growth. Secondly, pay attention to diet, consume plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits rich in vitamins and minerals, avoid spicy and stimulating foods. Additionally, avoid prolonged sitting or standing positions to facilitate the recovery of the epididymis.
