In the fast-paced modern society, stress has become a frequent visitor to many, originating from the heavy burdens of work, studies, and family, leading to fluctuating emotions. Anger, a common negative emotion, not only erodes our mental health but also quietly threatens our physical well-being. Fortunately, the human body harbors a natural “calming switch” – several specific acupoints that, through simple massage, can effectively alleviate emotions, reducing the frequency of anger outbursts. Let’s explore these miraculous acupoints that have the power to calm.

Taichong acupoint, located between the first and second metatarsal bones on the dorsum of the foot, belongs to the Liver Jueyin Meridian, playing a crucial role in regulating emotions. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, the liver is responsible for the smooth expression of emotions, massaging the Taichong acupoint is like opening a channel for dredging, helping regulate liver Qi, calming anger, and quickly restoring inner peace.

Hegu acupoint, located between the first and second metacarpal bones on the dorsum of the hand around the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone, is a key point of the Large Intestine Yangming Meridian. It not only relieves headaches, toothaches, and discomfort caused by liver Yang rising but also soothes irritability and anger caused by excessive liver Fire.

During arm flexion, on the outer side of the elbow along the line connecting the cubital fossa acupoint to the midpoint of the external condyle of the humerus, you can find Quchi acupoint. It is effective in clearing heat, detoxifying, relieving symptoms caused by liver Fire such as fever and swollen eyes, as well as assisting in relieving emotional fluctuations.

Sanli acupoint, located three inches below the kneecap on the lateral side of the lower leg, is connected to the Stomach Meridian of Yangming Foot. It indirectly regulates emotions by promoting spleen and stomach health. A good spleen and stomach function is the cornerstone of emotional stability; massaging this acupoint can enhance body functions, achieving the goal of emotional balance.

To correctly massage these acupoints, you can use acupressure, gentle rubbing, or techniques like gua sha, moxibustion, etc., for 1 to 2 minutes each time, feeling a slight soreness. Close your eyes, focus, and as you press deeper with each touch, feel your body and mind gradually relax.

The mechanism of action of these “calming acupoints” lies in stimulating meridians, promoting the circulation of Qi and blood, dispersing liver Qi accumulation; reducing excessive liver Fire, decreasing emotional instability; adjusting hormonal balance, improving emotional fluctuations caused by hormonal imbalance; and indirectly enhancing emotional stability by strengthening organ function, especially the spleen and stomach.

Combined with deep breathing, meditation, and other relaxation techniques, massaging the “calming acupoints” will have a more significant effect, helping you find a peaceful haven amidst busyness and challenges, embracing a more harmonious attitude towards life. Care for yourself, starting with the delicate nurturing of emotions, and let every day be filled with tranquility and joy.
