Traditional Chinese Medicine Yuan Ding: Don’t want to take medication for high cholesterol? Doctor: Do these 3 things, and you might not need medication!

Hello everyone! I am Director Yuan Ding of the Cardiovascular Department at a public tertiary hospital, your doctor friend. I currently hold regular consultations at Guangzhou Hongyun Traditional Chinese Medicine.

For many patients with high cholesterol, taking medication can often become a lifelong requirement. However, patients frequently ask me: Doctor, is there any way to avoid medication?

In fact, some patients with high cholesterol can reduce their levels by adjusting their lifestyle, thus achieving the goal of not needing medication.

So how should patients with high cholesterol adjust their lives? Today, I will discuss 3 important things that high cholesterol patients need to do in their daily lives!

1. Balanced Diet

Patients with high cholesterol should control their total calorie intake and reduce the consumption of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol. They should also limit sweets, snacks, and salt, maintaining a balanced diet and nutrition, avoiding excessive animal or plant-based foods.

Minimize the intake of animal fats, plant oils, and nuts, and eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.

2. Moderate Exercise

It is important to engage in regular exercise or physical labor. If possible, incorporate some aerobic exercise, ideally 3-5 times a week, for about 30 minutes each session.

Activities like walking, swimming, jogging, Baduanjin (a form of Qigong), and table tennis are very suitable for patients with high cholesterol.

3. Quit Smoking and Limit Alcohol

Smoking is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and can easily lead to increased blood pressure, heart attacks, and angina.

Alcohol consumption should be kept to a minimum; otherwise, it can readily lead to decreased heart function and severely damage the functions of various organs in the body.

I am Dr. Yuan Ding, chief physician at a public tertiary hospital, with over 30 years of experience in clinical diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, myocarditis, and related conditions. I currently hold regular consultations at Guangzhou Hongyun Traditional Chinese Medicine.
