2 Eat

First: Eat coarse grains

As people’s living standards have improved, diets have become more refined. The rice and flour consumed are usually processed, which may contribute to increased blood sugar levels. For diabetes patients, consuming more coarse grains for breakfast can effectively control blood sugar spikes. Many people like to eat oats in the morning, which is a good choice due to its rich vitamins and minerals content, promoting digestion and providing necessary nutrients. Oats are considered coarse grains and do not cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels, which is beneficial for blood sugar control.

Second: Milk

For diabetes patients, it’s essential to have a controlled breakfast while ensuring adequate nutrition intake. A glass of milk in the morning can be beneficial; some may worry about the lactose in milk affecting blood sugar stability. However, milk provides essential nutrients for the body’s needs and contains substances that help control blood sugar, making it a safe option for diabetes patients. Opt for skimmed milk if possible.

3 Don’t Eat

First: Avoid fruits

While fruits are beneficial for increasing energy levels in healthy individuals, they are not advisable for diabetes patients. Consuming fruits on an empty stomach in the morning can spike blood sugar levels, which is counterproductive for blood sugar control.

Second: Avoid fried dough sticks (You Tiao)

Many people enjoy having soy milk with fried dough sticks for breakfast, but these dough sticks are deep-fried foods with high fat content which are difficult to digest. The high fat and difficulty in digestion can make it challenging for diabetes patients to control blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of high blood lipid and high blood pressure.

Third: Avoid consuming plain congee

Having a bowl of plain congee in the morning may seem comforting, but it’s not ideal for diabetes patients. Cooked plain congee is easily absorbed by the body, leading to a quick rise in blood sugar levels.
