Nutritionists remind: These three types of foods, if left in the refrigerator for too long, must be thrown away promptly.

With the advancement of technology, people’s dietary levels are also improving, and the variety of foods is becoming richer. However, as people’s pace of life quickens, it is easy for them to develop various unhealthy eating habits. In fact, everyone knows that most foods are better when fresh, not only for the taste but also for their nutritional value. But for many office workers, daily work is very busy, so they simply don’t have time to buy groceries every day. Therefore, the refrigerator has become an indispensable household appliance.

The existence of the refrigerator greatly extends the shelf life of food, so many people are accustomed to buying a large amount of food at once and then storing it in the refrigerator. Some people don’t even know which items are suitable for refrigeration, so they just put everything in the fridge, unaware that some items can cause harm to the body if left in the refrigerator for too long.

Leftover food

I believe that everyone’s refrigerator will have one or two leftovers because many people can’t accurately estimate the amount of food to cook, resulting in leftovers. However, in our country, thriftiness is always praised, so leftover food is usually not thrown away and is directly placed in the refrigerator for the next meal. Little do they know that putting leftovers in the fridge not only increases electricity consumption but also leads to unpleasant odors inside the refrigerator.

The refrigerator is not absolutely safe. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for a short time without problems, but if it exceeds 8 hours, it may produce a large amount of nitrites, and the longer it sits, the more will be produced. If consumed after, it can not only harm the stomach but also potentially lead to cell mutations. Therefore, it is advisable for everyone to throw away leftovers.

Seafood

With the improvement of living standards, seafood, once considered a luxury, has now become a common guest on every household’s dining table. Seafood not only tastes good but also has high nutritional value, containing various essential nutrients for the human body. However, when eating seafood, intake must be controlled. Seafood itself is cold in nature, which can easily stimulate the stomach. Additionally, seafood has high purine content, excessive consumption can lead to high uric acid levels, and even trigger gout.

Many people tend to buy a large amount of seafood at once and then store it in the refrigerator for a long time. Little do they know that most seafood requires specific temperature conditions, and ordinary refrigerators may not provide the ideal environment. Over time, this can lead to loss of nutrients in seafood and the growth of bacteria.

Seasonings

Seasonings are a staple in every household kitchen since they are used in every meal with a significant amount consumed. Therefore, many people tend to buy a large quantity at once and store them in the refrigerator. However, seasonings like peppercorns and star anise are actually more suitable for storage at room temperature. Inside the refrigerator, the temperature is low, and the humidity is high. If left in there for too long, it can easily get damp and breed bacteria.
