As soon as summer arrives, the human body tends to develop some minor problems, such as getting a fever, inflammation, or indigestion, leading to restless sleep. Traditional Chinese medicine recommends dealing with summer heat by having a “bitter for the heart, calming the heart fire, and settling the mind” approach. So, how should one consume this “bitterness”?
Today, I will introduce the four bitterness-relieving remedies that can be easily found in daily life, and they are also affordable!
1. Dandelion
Take dandelion leaves and brew them in water to drink.
Dandelion is a dual-purpose herb and food that has the ability to clear heat, detoxify, fight bacteria and tumors, improve digestion, relieve constipation, and soothe red and swollen eyes. However, it is not suitable for individuals with a cold constitution.
2. Aloe Vera
Consuming aloe vera in salads, aloe vera juice, or aloe vera yogurt
Aloe vera also serves as a dual-purpose herb and food that can expel parasites, clear heat, and facilitate bowel movements. Persons with a weak constitution should avoid consuming aloe vera.
3. Bitter Buckwheat Tea
Brew it with black tea to drink
Although called “tea,” bitter buckwheat tea is actually a cooling herbal medicine. It helps relieve thirst, clear the head, and disperse wind-heat. Generally, people brew it in water, but its bitterness can be challenging for some to accept. A tip is to mix bitter buckwheat tea and black tea in a 1:9 ratio, reducing the bitterness while still dispelling damp-heat and warming the stomach. Similarly, those with a weak and cold constitution should avoid bitter buckwheat tea.
4. Bitter Vegetables
Make a bitter vegetable and pumpkin soup
Bitter vegetables are effective in reducing inflammation in ovarian masses, pelvic inflammatory disease, colitis, and can also offer supportive effects for diabetes!
