【East Bo】Psychological Counseling: When overwhelmed by emotions, try this method!

Must read

In this tumultuous world, everyone is fighting hard on their own battlefield. Sometimes, we encounter obstacles that seem insurmountable, and the inner pressure surges like a tide, making it almost suffocating. When emotions are overwhelming, why not try this simple yet effective method – sit in meditation.

Find a quiet corner

First, find a quiet place, preferably a softly lit and well-ventilated space. This place should be your personal sanctuary, free from external disturbances, filled only with inner peace. You can place things you like here, such as a bouquet of flowers, a photo, or a book, all of which can bring you a warm feeling.

Comfortable posture

Find a sitting position that makes you comfortable, whether cross-legged or leaning back in a chair. It is important to keep your spine upright, which helps you focus your attention and prevents distraction from physical discomfort. If sitting directly on the floor feels uncomfortable, you can use a cushion or a yoga mat.

Close your eyes

Gently close your eyes and allow your body to completely relax. Initially, there may be some distracting thoughts swirling in your mind, and that’s normal. Instead of resisting these thoughts, simply observe them quietly, letting them float through your consciousness like clouds.

Focus on breathing

Slowly shift your attention to your breath. Feel the air entering your nostrils, passing through your throat, reaching your lungs with each inhale; and as the air slowly leaves your body with each exhale. You can try counting your breaths, like counting “one” on the inhale and “two” on the exhale, which can help you concentrate better.

Gently return

When you feel a certain relief in your emotions or when the time is up, slowly open your eyes. During this process, you can slowly move your fingers and toes, allowing your body to gradually adapt to the external environment. When standing up, do so slowly to avoid dizziness.

Record your feelings

After meditation, you can jot down your current feelings. This can not only help you better understand your emotional changes but also serve as future reference to see if you’ve made progress over time.

Sitting meditation is a highly effective relaxation method that not only helps us find inner peace amidst stressful days but also enhances our focus and self-awareness. When feeling overwhelmed by emotions, why not try this method, giving your mind a gentle embrace. In this busy world, remember to give yourself some time alone, allowing your mind to rest and recover. You’ll find that even just a few minutes of meditation can bring unexpected strength and peace into your life.
