Moxibustion

Moxibustion, as a characteristic therapy in traditional Chinese medicine, is collectively referred to as acupuncture and moxibustion with needle therapy. It mainly involves the use of moxa wool or other moxibustion materials to burn on the corresponding acupoints on the patient’s body surface, promoting the expression of medicinal effects in the patient’s meridians through the heat, achieving the purpose of warming the meridians, dispelling cold, promoting Qi and blood circulation, reinforcing the body and expelling pathogenic factors.

Applying moxibustion in the treatment of patients with anxiety disorders can stimulate the patient’s central nervous system through warm stimulation, leading to a series of neurohumoral regulations. Based on this, the patient’s resistance to disease is enhanced, physiological balance gradually returns to normal, ultimately achieving the effect of improving anxiety disorders.

Specifically, the acupoints used in moxibustion for treating anxiety disorders mainly include Baihui, Sishencong, Xinshu, Pishu, Ganshu, etc. Moxibustion on Baihui and Sishencong acupoints can achieve the effects of reinforcing Qi, raising Yang, and nourishing the brain and calming the mind; moxibustion on Xinshu, Pishu, Ganshu, etc., can achieve the effects of harmonizing Yin and Yang, nourishing the heart and calming the mind. Moxibustion on these acupoints can help patients with anxiety disorders in communication between the heart and kidney, harmonizing Yin and Yang, and comprehensively improving the manifestations of the disease.

Tuina Therapy

Tuina therapy, based on the theory of viscera and meridians in traditional Chinese medicine, can regulate physiological and pathological conditions, with the advantages of non-invasiveness and no side effects. When treating patients with anxiety disorders, the specific operations are as follows:

First, perform back tuina, using techniques such as pushing, rolling, kneading, and plucking to fully relax the muscles of the patient’s back. At the same time, select acupoints such as Xinshu and Ganshu and apply kneading with the thumb. Xinshu is the back-shu point of the heart, and kneading can tonify heart Yang, promote Qi circulation, and unblock meridians; Ganshu is where the Liver Meridian passes through, and kneading can regulate liver function, relieving anxiety, depression, and other emotional issues. Therefore, tuina can effectively improve the circulation of Qi and blood, regulate the functions of the organs, and improve anxiety disorders.

Next, perform facial tuina, including using both thumbs to tuina the temples and kneading Yintang acupoint. In addition, focus on massaging acupoints such as Shenting, Baihui, and Shencong to help calm the patient. Also press on acupoints like Yanglingquan, Zusanli, and Sanyinjiao on both sides to further regulate Qi and blood, balance Yin and Yang. Through the use of traditional Chinese tuina therapy, patients with anxiety disorders can have their Qi and blood regulated, emotions relieved, and achieve significant therapeutic effects.
