Recently, a patient friend asked me: “Is Chinese medicine treatment for schizophrenia a scam? Many people say that there is no such illness in traditional Chinese medicine! How do you treat others?”
There is no term for schizophrenia in traditional Chinese medicine, which I mentioned in my previous articles, but I want to emphasize: the absence of this term does not mean that traditional Chinese medicine cannot treat this illness.
Today, I will share the treatment experience of a patient with an 8-year history of schizophrenia, and after reading it, you will understand: there is no illness that cannot be treated, only doctors who cannot treat them.
Little Ya realized something was wrong during her senior year of high school, when taking graduation photos, she vaguely felt her limbs and expressions were stiff and somewhat uncontrollable. When she went to university, after the lights went out one night, she heard someone talking continuously and the sound of nails scratching the wall, which made her very irritated, so she shouted loudly, “Stop talking! I want to sleep.” Her roommates were startled at the time, thinking she was joking.
Later, Little Ya’s condition worsened; when she saw classmates playing football, she believed that she was being possessed by classmates on the ball, and thought they were all teasing her. When she heard classmates cursing while playing games, she would automatically take it personally, believing they were all cursing at her…
It was a long time before Little Ya realized that those “people” who were constantly around her were invisible and inaudible to others; normal people could not see them. When she was clear-headed, she knew there was no one around her who was scolding her, but when she was ill, she could not help but attack the people around her.
Realizing this, Little Ya became very scared and began seeing doctors, taking large amounts of Western medicine, but the side effects were very obvious; most of the time she felt very sluggish, so she switched to traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
When I treated Little Ya, I understood that she had an energy imbalance.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is viewed as a delicate energy system, with all physiological activities relying on Qi and blood to function; this Qi and blood are the energy of the body.
If emotions are not smooth, it leads to liver Qi stagnation, which can trigger mental illnesses;
If the spleen is weak, it causes phlegm and turbidity to obstruct the interior, leading to mental confusion and triggering mental illnesses;
If one has been ill for a long time, it results in kidney deficiency, as the kidneys are the source of constitution, and kidney deficiency leads to the brain not being nourished, resulting in mental illness.
As long as the cause of the illness is identified and the syndromes are accurately differentiated, traditional Chinese medicine can provide precise treatment.
Little Ya often experienced disturbances in her mind caused by emotions such as frustration and fear, showing symptoms such as memory decline, drenching sweats, and constipation, with a dark tongue and white coating, and a thin, wiry pulse.
Prescription:
Cinnamon twig, peony, fresh ginger, jujube, floating wheat, raw dragon bone, raw oyster shell, fly insect, leech, wine rhubarb, peach kernel, Shuqi, honey-roasted licorice.
This prescription can resolve phlegm, open the mind, invigorate blood circulation, calm and soothe the spirit.
After a week, Little Ya showed significant improvement in auditory and visual hallucinations, and after half a month her sleep gradually stabilized. After continuing for another month of treatment, she was advised to stop taking Western medicine. After follow-up treatment over half a year, her condition had not relapsed.
Today, I want to explain schizophrenia from another perspective.
For patients with schizophrenia, whether experiencing auditory hallucinations or delusions, the content is mostly related to deep-seated trauma; for example, if one was often beaten as a child, they may visualize scenes of others cursing them.
