Liver Qi stagnation, also known as Liver Qi constraint, is similar to a section of the plumbing in our homes that is blocked, preventing water from flowing normally. Over time, this can lead to a buildup in the pipes and, if serious, may trigger a series of problems. The same applies to Liver Qi stagnation.
Hello everyone, I am your old friend (Little Medicine Practitioner)!
Not long ago, I encountered a patient who was experiencing various problems. This patient was suffering from great work pressure, combined with the responsibilities of supporting both parents and children, inevitably leading to excessive worrying, poor sleep quality, low mood, and a particularly irritable temperament. For a long time, the patient even suspected they had severe depression.
After a thorough diagnosis, it was discovered that the patient had a thick and greasy tongue coating, a wiry pulse, and symptoms of dry mouth and bitter taste. Based on the understanding of the previous symptoms, the final diagnosis was—Liver Qi stagnation type insomnia.
Considering the patient’s condition, after calming her emotions, I promptly prescribed a formula with a monarch-minister-assistant-envoy approach:
Two coins of Huangjing, one coin of white head goji berries, and 3 grams of Fengmuhu, to be taken once in the morning and once in the evening, boiled in water to drink instead of tea.
What was the result?
After the patient adhered to the treatment for two weeks, she no longer woke up abruptly during sleep, and her feelings of anxiety and restlessness gradually improved. Observing these changes, I prescribed an additional two months’ dosage to consolidate the results. After finishing the treatment, all her symptoms had resolved, and the previous issues had mostly alleviated.
