A one-month-old baby has caught a cold from spitting up milk.

Must read

When the baby vomits due to catching a cold, the following measures can be taken to alleviate the situation:

1. Egg hot compress method: Wrap a freshly boiled egg in a towel and place it on the baby’s abdomen over their clothing, using the warmth of the egg to help relieve vomiting caused by the baby’s stomach getting cold.

2. Gentle massage: Keep the baby in an upright position, and then gently massage from the neck down to the stomach, which helps reduce vomiting symptoms.

3. Drinking warm water: Encourage the baby to drink more warm water, as this can promote normal gastric secretion, effectively suppressing the sensation of nausea and improving vomiting.

If the above home care measures do not alleviate the baby’s vomiting symptoms, especially if the baby vomits frequently, and the expelled liquid is yellow-green or brown, accompanied by fever or diarrhea, medical attention should be sought promptly.

When caring for a baby who is vomiting due to a cold, the following points should also be noted:

Keep the upper body elevated: Ensure that when the baby lies down, a bath towel supports their body to slightly elevate their upper body and prevent vomit from entering the airway. If the baby vomits while lying down, immediately turn their face to one side.

Timing of hydration: After vomiting, let the baby rest briefly and avoid drinking water immediately to prevent further vomiting. After a moment, you can try giving a small amount of clear water.

Adjust feeding amount: When the baby’s energy state has improved and they are willing to eat, you can continue feeding, but reduce the feeding amount by half each time and use a small amount, frequently method.

Keep the abdomen warm: Ensure the baby’s abdomen does not get cold, as a cold abdomen can lead to gastrointestinal spasms and cause vomiting. It’s important to keep the baby warm, especially during sleep when they should be well covered.

Control milk flow: For mothers with sufficient milk, light pressure on the sides can help regulate the milk flow rate, preventing the baby from choking or vomiting while sucking.

Mastering these practical tips can effectively address the issue of baby vomiting, giving mothers greater peace of mind. As the baby grows, around 7 to 8 months old, due to the stomach’s position becoming more vertical and the strength of the lower esophageal sphincter increasing, vomiting naturally tends to decrease or even disappear.
