Baby spitting up milk with a sour taste and blood streaks, reasons and solutions

Must read

A one-and-a-half-year-old baby experiencing milk vomiting, with traces of blood in the milk, accompanied by a sour taste in the mouth, may be a manifestation of indigestion, but the appearance of blood suggests a possible risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is recommended to seek timely medical examination.

Infant milk vomiting is usually common, but if blood traces are present, it may be a sign of duodenal bleeding. In such cases, it is best to consult a professional doctor’s opinion. It is worth noting that if a newborn frequently regurgitates milk, it may be a symptom of serious conditions such as congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Different symptoms point to different health issues: projectile vomiting may be related to meningitis; green bile in the vomit may indicate intestinal obstruction; and the presence of blood emphasizes the possibility of duodenal bleeding. Normally, after vomiting milk, the baby is in good spirits, still has an appetite, sleep is not affected, and it occurs occasionally without excessive worry.

However, if the baby frequently vomits milk, with decreased urine output, no weight gain but weight loss, continuous crying and difficult to soothe, and vomit containing bile or feces, these are abnormal signs that require immediate medical attention.

For a two-month-old baby vomiting milk with phlegm and blood, this may be a symptom of internal heat caused by a cold. Parents can give appropriate cold medication to children and combine it with heat-clearing products, but it is best to consult a doctor first.

Facing a situation where the baby vomits milk with a sour taste, parents can take the following measures: continue normal feeding, but burp the baby after feeding, keep the abdomen warm; control the milk quantity reasonably, at scheduled intervals; when adding complementary foods, choose easily digestible soft foods, small frequent meals; try using probiotics to regulate the baby’s gut, or use spleen-invigorating and digestion-promoting drugs for auxiliary treatment; if milk vomiting is accompanied by green bile-like substances, delayed growth and development, persistent discomfort, medical attention should be sought promptly; help the baby digest through massage or back rubs; when breastfeeding, mothers should pay attention to their diet, avoid raw and difficult-to-digest foods, prioritize light foods, ensure adequate water intake, and make sure the baby doesn’t get cold.
