Can I wear short sleeves after giving birth?

Must read

Postpartum care, commonly known as “sitting the month” in China, is a crucial aspect highly valued by Chinese mothers because it directly affects future health. During this critical period, mothers naturally pay attention to various details of postpartum care, such as clothing choices, and whether wearing short sleeves is a common question.

Considering the high summer temperatures, new mothers tend to sweat easily after childbirth, with pores open and weakened physical condition. If not careful about keeping warm and prevent cold drafts from entering the body, it may lead to issues like colds and back pain. Therefore, even though the weather is hot during summer confinement, it is still advisable to avoid directly wearing short sleeves to prevent catching a chill.

In addition, postpartum women have relatively lower immunity and are more prone to respiratory virus attacks leading to colds. These viruses may already be present in the respiratory tract and take advantage of the weakened immunity to invade, or can be transmitted from external sources.

For summer postpartum care, there are several points to note: – Postpartum sweating is a normal physiological response aiming to expel excess water accumulated during pregnancy. Clothing choices should include long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and thin cotton socks to protect joints from cold winds. Adjust clothing according to the temperature to stay comfortable and prevent heatstroke. – In terms of diet, it is recommended to consume postpartum-specific nutritional supplements such as specially formulated milk powder, various vitamins, or calcium tablets. Food should be nutrient-rich, easily digestible, ensure an adequate intake of water to promote rapid recovery. – During hot weather, it is advisable to use air conditioning or fans to regulate indoor temperature to around 26°C to ensure the mother’s comfort but avoid direct blowing to prevent discomfort for both mother and baby. Proper use of dehumidifying function in air conditioning helps maintain dry air.

In conclusion, while summer postpartum care poses challenges, with proper clothing, balanced diet, and suitable environmental adjustments, one can ensure comfort, effectively promote postpartum recovery, and smoothly navigate through this special period.
