How to deal with cold and cough during the confinement period

Must read

During the puerperium, if a woman encounters a cold or cough, she can first try self-regulation: keep warm to prevent catching a chill; diet should focus on light, easily digestible foods rich in vitamin C to help the body fight against illness; ensure adequate rest and reduce physical exertion. Simple techniques such as hot compressing the nose or drinking ginger brown sugar water can also alleviate some discomfort.

If self-regulation does not yield good results, seek medical attention promptly. Doctors will prescribe corresponding medications based on the type of cold (wind-cold or wind-heat), such as Jingfang granules for wind-cold colds or Yin Qiao Jie Du tablets for wind-heat colds. If necessary, antibiotics may be prescribed to control potential infections. In particular, postpartum women after cesarean section should not take oral medications due to unhealed wounds and may consider local nebulization therapy to relieve cough.

Facing colds and coughs during the puerperium, proper care and timely medical intervention are equally important to ensure effective management and treatment of symptoms.
