How to take care of a baby during the confinement period

Must read

The month after a baby is born is referred to as the “confinement period,” which is a critical stage for them to adapt to the outside environment. During this time, babies need careful attention and care. The following suggestions may help new parents:

Feeding should follow the baby’s needs; breastfeed when they are hungry, without regard to time or frequency, ensuring that the baby’s dietary needs are met. Gently patting the baby’s back after feeding can help prevent spitting up.

Sleep is crucial for infants during the confinement period; they require about 16 to 20 hours of sleep each day to support rapid growth. Creating a quiet, cozy sleep space, reducing noise and light disturbances will help the baby sleep well.

Keep the baby clean by regularly changing diapers to prevent diaper rash, while also ensuring warmth during the changing process to avoid the baby getting cold.

Give the baby baths at appropriate times, maintaining the water temperature close to body temperature at around 37℃. After bathing, gently pat the baby dry with a towel, especially in skin folds, to prevent eczema.

Select clothing for the baby according to weather changes, with cotton and breathable materials being the first choice, which can keep them comfortable and protect their delicate skin from irritation.

Ensure the safety of the baby’s environment, keeping them away from potential hazards such as electrical wires and ropes, and avoid leaving the baby unattended on a bed or sofa to prevent accidents.

Interact with the baby while they are awake through language, songs, and gentle touches; this not only enhances the parent-child relationship but also effectively promotes the development of the baby’s senses and cognition.

Care during the confinement period requires meticulous attention; mothers or caregivers should flexibly adjust care strategies, keeping pace with the baby’s growth to lay a solid foundation for healthy development.
