Ten-month-old baby, what’s the matter with dry heaving?

Must read

Ten-month-old babies experiencing dry heaving may be due to physiological or pathological factors. Physiologically, inappropriate feeding methods, such as touching the throat with a bottle or ingesting a large amount of air while feeding, can easily trigger dry heaving in babies because at this stage their throat is more sensitive and the gastrointestinal system is not yet fully developed. Parents should pay attention to adjusting the feeding position to avoid discomfort for the child. In addition, overfeeding the baby beyond its limited digestion capacity may also cause dry heaving. Gently massaging the baby’s abdomen clockwise can help alleviate this situation, but the pressure should be controlled. Babies at this age are in the oral exploration stage, and frequent sucking on fingers or toes may touch the throat and cause dry heaving.

On a pathological level, respiratory infections (such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis) can stimulate the baby’s throat, leading to dry heaving, and in this case, it may be necessary to use heat-clearing, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory drugs as prescribed by a doctor. Gastrointestinal infections, such as acute gastritis and gastroenteritis, are another cause, where pathogens invading the gastrointestinal tract trigger dry heaving, often accompanied by symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, etc. In the face of such situations, parents should promptly follow the doctor’s guidance, provide the baby with fluid replacement and necessary anti-infection treatment to alleviate the child’s discomfort. Overall, although baby dry heaving may seem worrying, with correct care and necessary medical intervention when needed, the prognosis is usually good.
