The amount of artificial feeding for infants, the artificial feeding amount of multiple reference standards

Must read

After childbirth, mothers usually produce breast milk, but there are also cases where mothers cannot produce milk due to extreme physical weakness, inadequate nutrition, or excessive blood loss during delivery. Some mothers can restore milk production through proper care. However, if the mother is too weak, breastfeeding may worsen her health burden, in which case artificial feeding is more suitable for the baby. Next, we will discuss the details of artificial feeding for infants.

The amount of artificial feeding for infants should be based on their weight. For example, a newborn weighing 3 kilograms requires approximately 150 to 300 kilocalories per day, so the intake of fresh cow’s milk should also fall within this range, with about 12 to 24 grams of sugar added. Within the first week of birth, newborns can only accept 2:1 diluted milk (mixing 2 parts fresh cow’s milk with 1 part water), and the ratio needs to be strictly controlled.

Feeding intervals are typically 2 to 3 hours. When a baby is crying without urinating or having a normal body temperature, it is likely a sign of hunger. Nighttime feedings may require waking up 2 to 3 times as infants have higher milk demands during this period, so parents need to be prepared. During the day, feedings are approximately every 3 hours, and if the baby cries in between, a moderate amount of milk can be given, but the total amount should be controlled to avoid overfeeding.

Artificial feeding needs to follow a certain pattern and quantity, unlike on-demand breastfeeding. It is recommended to refer to the guidelines on the formula packaging and adjust accordingly based on the baby’s specific needs. Before feeding, ensure that the milk temperature is appropriate as both overheating and being too cold are not suitable for the baby to drink.

It is essential to cultivate the habit of feeding the baby at regular intervals. Even if the baby cries, the feeding schedule should not be altered randomly to prevent the formation of unhealthy eating habits. Using a bib during feedings, wiping the baby’s hands can serve as feeding signals, helping the baby gradually adapt and form a regular eating routine. Through consistent and regular feeding, the baby will gradually adjust and establish its own life rhythm.
