What is the method of breastfeeding newborns

Must read

Breastfeeding is an important starting point for the healthy growth of newborns, but for new moms, this is a subject that needs to be learned and mastered gradually. Correct breastfeeding positions, techniques to help babies latch on smoothly, are all key points in the breastfeeding process, requiring mothers to patiently learn and practice.

Immediately starting breastfeeding after delivery is widely recommended, usually within the first half hour after birth. This not only helps prevent newborn hypoglycemia but also effectively promotes breast milk secretion, further stimulating milk production through the baby’s sucking action. At the same time, early breastfeeding can reduce postpartum bleeding in mothers.

When implementing breastfeeding, mothers need to adopt a comfortable position, usually by supporting the breast with one hand, forming an appropriate breastfeeding angle, ensuring the baby is close to them, with the head and shoulders facing the breast. Keep the body relaxed, slightly leaning forward, support the baby’s neck with the palm base, cradle the head with four fingers, ensuring a smooth breastfeeding process. Day and night, babies should be held for feeding to ensure each breast is fully emptied to stimulate continuous milk production. Cleaning the nipples before and after feeding is also an essential step.

Feeding newborns should follow an on-demand and unscheduled principle, especially within 4 to 8 days after birth, frequent breastfeeding can effectively increase breast milk production rapidly. For quieter or sleepier babies, feeding frequency should be increased during the day to ensure they get enough nutrition.

During nighttime feedings, mothers often feel exhausted and may breastfeed while half-asleep, posing safety risks. Therefore, it is recommended that mothers sit up during nighttime feedings to prevent accidental blocking of the baby’s nostrils with the breast, ensuring safety.

Mastering the correct breastfeeding methods is crucial for both new moms and babies. This process not only promotes the healthy growth of babies but also allows mothers to experience the greatness and happiness of motherly love in practice.
