What should I do if my five-month-old baby is vomiting severely?

Must read

During the process of raising a baby, parents often encounter the phenomenon of occasional vomiting after the baby finishes feeding, which makes them very worried. Especially, what is the reason for a five-month-old infant to vomit?

In fact, if it is only mild vomiting, there is no need to worry too much. At this stage, the baby’s gastrointestinal and stomach structures are still developing; the stomach position is horizontal, and the pylorus is relatively loose. Improper feeding positions or the baby eating too much can lead to milk reflux from the esophagus, resulting in vomiting. Improving the feeding position and helping the baby burp after feeding can effectively alleviate this situation.

However, if the baby frequently and violently vomits, with milk being forcefully expelled, this may be a pathological manifestation related to gastrointestinal diseases or brain issues. At this point, the baby may also exhibit symptoms such as crying, irritability, or lethargy, and medical attention should be sought promptly.

To relieve vomiting in five-month-old infants, the following measures can be taken:

Control the feeding volume to avoid overfeeding.

Feed in small amounts multiple times to lessen the burden on the stomach.

After feeding, let the baby lie upright on an adult’s shoulder and gently pat the back to expel swallowed air.

The feeding process should be slow, allowing the baby time to breathe.

Ensure the nipple hole of the bottle is of moderate size to prevent the baby from swallowing too much air or obstructing breathing.

After feeding, keep the baby’s upper body upright for a moment and let them sleep on their right side to prevent food reflux.

Avoid allowing the baby to become immediately excited or shaken after feeding to keep their emotions stable.

Through these detailed care methods, the incidence of vomiting can be effectively reduced, providing support for their healthy growth.
