A week before your period, this area is very delicate? Don’t be scared!

Must read

In the circle of friends, from time to time, we will see someone sharing articles with storylines like this: roughly meaning a girl goes out to play with her boyfriend, have a good time, and then experiences stomach pain late at night, leading to emergency medical treatment. What everyone thought was a minor issue turned out to be internal bleeding, which was saved through emergency surgery, and finally diagnosed as corpus luteum rupture! It sounds scary, feels very close to us, so what exactly is corpus luteum rupture? Is it as supernatural as it sounds?

What is the corpus luteum, is it really so easy to rupture?

Let’s first understand what corpus luteum is. It refers to a gland-like structure rich in blood vessels rapidly formed by the transformation of follicles after ovulation. If it is not fertilized, it is called menstrual corpus luteum, and if fertilized, it becomes pregnancy corpus luteum. Simply put, it is the tissue left after follicular ovulation formed under the influence of a hormone called luteinizing hormone. Therefore, the days from ovulation to the arrival of Aunt Flo are called the luteal phase, usually the week before Aunt Flo arrives.

Since the main function of the corpus luteum is to secrete estrogen and progesterone, preparing for pregnancy and providing support during pregnancy. Therefore, if pregnancy is not successful, the corpus luteum will gradually shrink, and its color will change from yellow to white.

As for why it ruptures, you should be able to think of a reason right away:

Another reason is that it may rupture due to small blood vessels in the corpus luteum itself. However, in such cases, the injury is usually minor, with minimal bleeding, and if the clotting function is good, it can stop bleeding on its own without major consequences. If there is intense impact or poor clotting, it may not stop bleeding, causing the corpus luteum to rupture, and there is no other way but to seek medical help promptly. Also, be sure not to excessively lose weight, as extremely thin women are more prone to corpus luteum rupture.

What are the signs of insufficient corpus luteum? How can you know if you have enough or not?

Corpus luteum insufficiency does not mean that it is insufficient but rather that there is incomplete formation of the corpus luteum after ovulation. This means there are problems in the secretion of both estrogen and progesterone, just like insufficient rainwater and nutrients for the uterus, which can affect the implantation of the fertilized egg and is unfavorable for pregnancy. It may even lead to mild infertility and an increased risk of early miscarriage.

For ordinary girls, corpus luteum insufficiency can also lead to a shortened menstrual cycle or a small amount of menstrual-like discharge in the days before menstruation, followed by the formal arrival of Aunt Flo. If you want to know if you have sufficient corpus luteum, it’s best to undergo a check-up at the hospital.

I’m Qiao Meimei. The matter of corpus luteum rupture is indeed very dangerous if it does happen, but there’s no need to worry too much. The corpus luteum is not as fragile as imagined, unless there is a violent external impact during the luteal phase (I think most people can notice this).
