Dr. Yan Huining: What is the reason for men having pubic lice?

Must read

Pubic lice, as a parasite that inhabits the hair on the human body, often brings many inconveniences and troubles to patients’ daily lives. Especially when men find pubic lice in their genital area, it not only causes intense itching but may also affect mental health and quality of sexual life. So, what are the reasons for men having pubic lice?

Pubic lice are mainly transmitted through sexual contact. When engaging in unprotected sexual activities with an infected individual, pubic lice can rapidly spread through bodily fluids and secretions. Therefore, men with chaotic sexual lives or multiple partners are more likely to become victims of pubic lice. Sharing personal items such as towels, bed sheets, and underwear with a pubic lice patient is also an important route for transmission. These items may retain pubic lice eggs or adult lice, leading to indirect infections.

Poor personal hygiene habits, such as infrequent bathing, not changing underwear, and not washing and disinfecting bedding and blankets for long periods, create a favorable environment for the breeding and reproduction of pubic lice. When the immune system is weakened, the body’s resistance to pathogens also decreases, increasing the risk of pubic lice infections. This may be related to unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as staying up late, unbalanced diets, and lack of exercise.

In a hospital setting, accidentally coming into contact with a patient who has pubic lice or their belongings may also lead to infection. This is especially true where no protective measures have been taken, significantly raising the infection risk.

Men having pubic lice is a health issue that cannot be ignored. The causes are complex and varied, involving multiple aspects such as sexual contact transmission, sharing personal items, poor hygiene conditions, weakened immunity, and exposure in hospital environments. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is required to address pubic lice infections, including prompt medical attention, shaving pubic hair, disinfecting clothing, medication treatment, and improving lifestyle habits. By implementing these measures, the risk of pubic lice infections can be effectively reduced, protecting men’s reproductive health and quality of life.
