Why do many people refer to diabetes as the “husband and wife disease”? What are the reasons behind it?

Must read

When it comes to diabetes, it is undoubtedly something that many people need to be vigilant about nowadays. After all, quite a few individuals develop this condition due to improper body care. Some cases are due to genetic factors, while others are acquired later in life. And there’s an inevitable fact that many face – this condition is often referred to as the “husband and wife disease.” As the name suggests, it occurs in couples together. Indeed, in daily life, such situations do exist where the wife develops the disease, and soon after, the husband does too. This certainly requires everyone’s attention. So why does this happen? What factors are involved?

Many might think of contagion, but in reality, diabetes is not contagious, so our conventional understanding of contagion does not apply here. As for the causes, diet plays a significant role. Couples who spend a long time together, sharing meals and life, tend to develop similar tastes over time. For instance, if one partner prefers strong flavors and the other doesn’t, prolonged cohabitation can lead to both adopting similar tastes, becoming fans of strong flavors. Especially if both enjoy high-fat, high-salt diets, the incidence of diabetes can increase. Referring to it as the “husband and wife disease” is not an exaggeration.

Aside from eating habits affecting couples’ health, emotions play a significant role. Psychological abnormalities can lead to unfavorable situations between partners. In today’s society, with increasing stress from work and life, individuals’ heightened emotions can easily affect their partners. Both partners being under such stress can impact their health, contributing to the emergence of the “husband and wife disease.”

Another crucial aspect for couples’ health besides eating habits is physical activity. It’s noteworthy when both spouses engage in regular physical exercise, as it not only strengthens the relationship but also enhances physical well-being. Conversely, couples who prefer to stay indoors, lying on the couch together playing on their phones or watching TV daily, may lack sufficient physical activity. This, in turn, can result in inadequate exercise, leading to the onset of the disease – hence the term “husband and wife disease” isn’t an exaggeration.

Moreover, another essential factor to focus on is their daily routines. The irregular sleep patterns of couples can significantly impact their health. If both partners manage to sleep on time, it is undoubtedly favorable. However, if one person enjoys staying up late, it can influence their partner’s routine. Eventually, both might end up staying up late. Prolonged late nights can increase the risk of developing the disease.

Evidently, there are various reasons behind the occurrence of the “husband and wife disease” between couples, prompting the need for enhanced attention and appropriate measures. For instance, regarding diet, it’s crucial to strike a balance between meat and vegetables, coarse and fine ingredients, and opt for a light diet. Regular physical activity is crucial in daily life. Maintaining a healthy routine is also essential – avoiding staying up late. Lastly, having an optimistic attitude is crucial; being constantly gloomy and unhappy might negatively impact one’s partner and overall health.

After learning all this, we now have a deeper understanding of why diabetes is referred to as the “husband and wife disease.” The occurrence of this condition among couples is undoubtedly intertwined with these factors. Hence, knowing these reasons in advance is crucial, and proper body care is of utmost importance. Even focusing on just one factor can aid in prevention.
