Starting exercise after the age of fifty is it too late? Three points to remember before Middle-aged and elderly exercise.

Must read

As people age, more and more individuals begin to focus on their health, often stemming from a lack of exercise when they were young. By the time they reach about fifty years old, various illnesses start to emerge, prompting them to realize the urgency of exercising. Some worry that starting at this age may be too late, but doctors emphasize that it is never too late to start exercising at any age.

Indeed, starting to exercise after the age of fifty may bring about issues like stiffness or weak joints, as prolonged inactivity can make the body rust like metal. However, this underscores the necessity and urgency of exercising, as it can bring multiple benefits: managing weight, preventing middle-aged and elderly obesity and the chronic diseases it brings, especially cardiovascular diseases; enhancing muscle strength, protecting bones, promoting joint flexibility; improving sleep quality, reducing physical and mental stress, and boosting blood circulation.

Nevertheless, why do some middle-aged and elderly individuals not see improvements in their physical condition after exercising? Reasons may include: uncontrolled exercise intensity, such as excessive walking that damages the knee joints; neglecting gradual progress, with beginners directly challenging high-intensity running; engaging in high-risk activities disregarding their own conditions, like diabetic patients suddenly exerting themselves in badminton, leading to health issues.

Therefore, for individuals over the age of fifty, doctors propose three key points for exercising: choosing the right time, such as boosting metabolism in the morning, enjoying mild sunlight and vitamin D supplementation in the afternoon, and taking a post-dinner walk to aid digestion; adequately warming up before exercise to protect joints and muscles; exercising moderately, not exceeding one hour per day, gradually increasing difficulty levels to ensure scientific and effective exercise.

In conclusion, initiating an exercise plan after fifty is by no means too late, the key lies in following professional guidance, planning reasonably, and making exercise a support for a healthy lifestyle.
