In the hot summer, many people feel tired and have a decreased appetite. Recently, Chongqing Bishan District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital (affiliated with Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine College Bishan Hospital) leveraged the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine to develop and introduce a variety of health teas and medicinal diets, providing scientific and effective dietary solutions for citizens’ summer health.

The head of Bishan District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital explained that summer is a season when the body’s yang energy is strong, leading to excessive sweating and loss of body fluids. In order to replenish body fluids and maintain the balance of yin and yang, specially designed health teas like appetizing sour plum drink have been developed to cater to those with poor appetite and feelings of nausea and abdominal distension, helping them find enjoyment in food during the hot summer.
In addition, the hospital has introduced a series of seasonal medicinal diets ranging from Rejuvenation Day’s rehmannia glutinosa porridge to Winter Begins’ walnut and goji berry porridge, each embodying traditional Chinese medicine’s deep understanding of nature and meticulous care for human health. These medicinal diets are not only delicious but also help people obtain necessary nutrition and regulation in different seasons.
After tasting the appetizing sour plum drink from the hospital, Ms. Li expressed that the black plum soup has a refreshing taste with a hint of floral fragrance, not overly sweet, and reasonably priced. She believes that compared to commercially available sour plum drinks, this one holds more health and wellness value.
The head of the hospital’s Preventative Medicine Department reminded the public that while the concept of “food as medicine” emphasizes the close connection between food and medicine, caution should still be exercised in the use of medicines. Medicines have specific tendencies and properties, improper use may lead to “medicine-induced illnesses.” Therefore, in the pursuit of health, individuals should focus on dietary regulation and lifestyle improvements, maintaining good health through scientific dietary methods and proper physical exercise.
