Depression, also known as depressive disorder, occurs when a series of symptoms occur, accompanied by low mood, self-doubt, and even thoughts of suicide and behaviors.
Many people may not have a deep understanding of this condition, but the increasing number of news about depression in recent years is unbelievable. Is depression really that terrifying? Does one have to go to extremes?
In fact, there are many patients with depression in our country. There may be depressed individuals around us, and when warning signs appear, besides suicidal thoughts, there may also be the following abnormal behaviors that should not be ignored.
If there are 4 abnormal behaviors, or signs of mild depression knocking at the door, don’t pretend not to see them.
Low mood
In the early stages of mild depression, patients tend to exhibit low moods and appear gloomy in their daily work and life, showing a lack of interest in many things.
As the symptoms progress, these situations become increasingly prominent. Therefore, if people around you show these signs, do not ignore them. When necessary, be sure to lend them a hand.
Slowed thinking
Usually, when we communicate with others, we can directly understand their meanings and thoughts, and respond appropriately. However, for individuals with mild depression, their thinking processes may slow down. When others tell them something, they may need some time to react.
Moreover, these individuals tend to speak slowly, and may even appear stunned when asked questions.
Decreased memory
If one experiences prolonged periods of low mood or mental fatigue, it may also affect the nervous system. If the nervous system becomes too tense, it can impact the functions of the brain cortex. Therefore, individuals with mild depression may also experience a decline in memory for a period of time.
If you find yourself forgetting things, or being absent-minded for a period of time, do not ignore it. It could be a sign of the onset of mild depression, and timely intervention is necessary.
Insomnia
Due to the increasing pace of life in recent years, many people have experienced insomnia. The causes of insomnia are varied, such as improper dinner habits, not adhering to a sleep schedule, or prolonged periods of staying up late, all of which can trigger insomnia.
If you are sure that you do not engage in the above negative behaviors, yet still experience frequent insomnia for a period, it could be a sign of mild depression setting in. Do not turn a blind eye to it.
Often, unconsciously, we tend to say a sentence repeatedly, which we call a “pet phrase.” If there is a tendency towards depression, one might also start to use negative phrases repeatedly. So, if you find yourself unconsciously using a few negative phrases frequently, be vigilant. It could be a sign of mild depression creeping in, requiring prompt medical attention.
Mildly depressed individuals often have 3 phrases as their pet phrases, hopefully you don’t have them.
“It’s so annoying”
For individuals who are often troubled by emotions, they may habitually say “I’m so annoyed” during normal times.
Such individuals tend to dwell in negative emotions for a long time. When facing challenging situations, they have a tendency to think negatively, gradually losing their ability to think independently, and even letting their actions be influenced by negativity.
“It’s really boring”
If you are generally a very optimistic person but find yourself uninterested in many new things around you for a period of time, even in things you used to be very interested in, expressing apathy.
Feeling like every day is repetitive and meaningless, frequently saying “It’s really boring” could also be a sign of mild depression knocking on the door. Do not neglect it.
“I’m useless”
Typically, individuals with mild depression often consider themselves worthless, believing they cannot do anything right, and can fall into a state of negative self-doubt.
If such individuals do not pull themselves out of this state for a long time, it could exacerbate the impact of depression, leading to negative thoughts and ideas. So, if you know someone like this, spend more time with them and encourage them in time.
