In today’s society, both work and life pressures are enormous. Some people have poor mental resilience and may not be able to withstand excessive psychological stress, leading to the gradual emergence of depressive symptoms. Moreover, research data indicates that the number of people suffering from depression has been increasing in recent years. How do individuals with depression manifest? If you know someone like this, please show them more care.
Individuals with depression often exhibit five distinct characteristics, hopefully you have none of them:
1. Emotionally extremely low.
If someone develops depression, the most noticeable sign is an extreme emotional low, a sense of deep depression. Moreover, they often believe they are not good enough, that they are dragging down those around them, and some may even contemplate suicide. If you know someone like this, make sure to pay more attention to them, offer guidance, and help pull them back from the cliff of depression.
2. Loss of appetite:
Following the onset of depression, being plagued by negative emotions for an extended period can also affect a person’s digestive function, leading to a decreased appetite. Even favorite foods placed in front of them may not be enticing, and such individuals tend to become abnormally thin.
3. Chronic insomnia:
People with mild depression often have poor sleep quality, tossing and turning in bed, unable to fall asleep, experiencing vivid dreams, easily waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to return to sleep, often indulging in wild thoughts. This can lead to increased irritability, further affecting sleep quality, with some individuals frequently experiencing disturbing dreams.
4. Physical and mental exhaustion:
With mild depression, individuals lose confidence in themselves and the society, lacking interest in anything, feeling physically and mentally exhausted even with slight activities. Tasks like washing your face or brushing your teeth can feel overwhelming. Persisting in this state for an extended period can be overwhelming for the mind and body.
5. Repeatedly uttering certain distinctive phrases:
Individuals with depression often have an overly negative worldview and frequently use specific phrases such as: “It’s all my fault,” “I’m the one to blame,” “I am burdening you all,” or “If I die, you all will be relieved.” If you notice someone around you frequently saying such things, they may be experiencing depression. If so, try to offer them assistance.
I hope none of the above applies to you, indicating good mental resilience. I hope this article could be helpful to you. Thank you for reading and your support. Wishing you good health.
