Guo Haiyan, the vice president of the Chengdu Heart Dynamics Youth Psychological Care Center, attended the “2024 Academic Annual Conference of the Sex Education Branch of the Chinese Sexology Association,” organized by the Chinese Sexology Association and its Sex Education Branch, hosted by Chengdu University of Technology, the Sichuan Sex Education Association, the Sichuan Sociological and Sex Education Research Center, and the Humanities and Social Sciences Committee of the Sichuan Sexology Association.
Guo Haiyan attended the academic conference on sexual psychology education
This conference brought together over 120 experts and scholars from the National Health Commission’s Institute of Scientific Research, Wuhan University, Fujian Normal University, Capital Medical University, Harbin Medical University, Tongji University Affiliated Tongji Hospital, Chengdu University of Technology, and other universities and institutions in the fields of sex education, sexual psychology, medicine, and related fields. They had extensive discussions and exchanges on issues related to sex and health.
Experts and leaders pointed out that sexual and reproductive health is an important component of human health, affecting everyone’s quality of life and family happiness. The Sex Education Branch of the Chinese Sexology Association has always adhered to the purpose of “popularizing sex science, promoting sexual health, building sexual harmony, and enhancing sexual civilization,” striving to create better platforms for sex health education, conducting sex education with Chinese characteristics that aligns with national conditions, serving the broader population, and promoting the Healthy China initiative.

Over thirty experts and scholars discussed the latest research findings in various areas related to sex and health at the conference, exploring thoughts and experiences from different fields. The presentations ranged from explorations of sex education in universities and vocational schools to discussions on personal and family sex education, from research related to sex studies to explorations of sexual psychology in education, as well as how to promote business ventures in sex education. This illustrates that issues of sex and health are closely connected to each individual’s life and every family’s society.
In our center’s routine work on AIDS prevention interventions, we have observed many individuals with sexual phobias. This issue often stems from a lack of correct and scientific sex education in their past experiences, particularly when schools and families neglect sex education. Consequently, many individuals develop stigmas surrounding sex and diseases during their growth. As adults, many of these individuals struggle to face and manage their sexual desires and do not know how to establish intimate relationships, leading to numerous difficulties and confusions in their lives. This reflects a past deficiency in knowledge and education regarding sex.
Guo is listening to the experts’ research
In the past, we were embarrassed to talk about sex, avoiding discussions around intimate relationships. However, with the development of the times, people have gradually realized that sex education is an essential part of personal healthy growth education. ****** stated: “Focusing on people’s health, enhancing the health literacy of the populace, we must promote psychological health knowledge and popular science on mental illness.” Sexual education, especially in psychological health education, is a crucial aspect. The lack of sexual education and sexual health knowledge has led many people to struggle to achieve happiness in their work and life.
After the conference discussions, Guo and other representatives also visited the Sichuan Sex Sociology and Sex Education Research Center, a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in Sichuan Province. Everyone expressed that the center’s development journey and its achievements and valuable experiences in scientific research, educational outreach, and social services have provided beneficial ideas and inspiration for the development of sex education in China.
