Red spots appear on the baby’s face, accompanied by white tips, which makes many parents anxious and worried about whether it indicates a serious health problem for their child. In fact, this situation is mostly related to the delicate nature of infant skin. If there is a high amount of pollen and dust in the living environment, it can easily trigger skin allergic reactions, and another possibility is eczema, which requires professional medical intervention.
Skin allergies manifest in various forms, and may be accompanied by itching or tightness; the appearance may show symptoms such as redness, peeling, swelling, and in severe cases, both. When children encounter allergies, their reactions are not limited to physical symptoms but also include behavioral changes, which usually occur within half an hour to a few hours after exposure to the allergen.
Children’s allergic symptoms are widespread, including redness of the face, nose, and ears, moist and painful ear canals, nasal congestion, sneezing, dark circles around the eyes, swollen and drooping eyelids, headaches, dry lips, excessively dry or sweaty skin, fine lines around the eyes and palms, abdominal discomfort, abnormal bowel movements, as well as eczema, repeated infections, long-term cough, asthma, rapid or irregular breathing, arrhythmia, and joint stiffness.
The behavioral changes caused by allergies vary among children of different ages:
Infants under one year may cry continuously, be difficult to soothe, have irregular eating patterns, be irritable or abnormally fatigued, experience sleep disturbances, resist cuddling, or exhibit head-shaking movements.
Children aged 1 to 3 may have inexplicable temper tantrums, be overly active, run around, bump into furniture at night, prefer to hide in dark places, resist physical contact, and show resistance when getting dressed or undressed.
Children aged 3 to 6 may exhibit sudden emotional and behavioral changes, have difficulty concentrating, be restless even when watching TV or listening to stories, show signs of fatigue, defiance, low mood, and even exhibit aggressive behavior, display involuntary body movements, experience sleep issues like nightmares, have affected writing and drawing abilities, and may express themselves with intermittent speech; some children older than five may still experience bedwetting.
In the face of these situations, it is crucial to promptly recognize allergy signs and take appropriate measures.
