In a baby’s diet, breast milk and formula are two main food sources. Breastfeeding is flexible and convenient, while formula requires more meticulous management. Once the formula can is opened, storage becomes a crucial step to ensure the freshness and quality of the formula. Infant formula is rich in protein and various nutrients, which provide conditions for bacteria growth, making proper storage of formula especially important.
For canned formula, due to its good sealing performance, after opening, it just needs to be stored at room temperature, avoiding direct sunlight, keeping the environment dry and cool, and ideally consumed within a month to avoid refrigeration. It is basic practice to tightly close the can lid after each use.
After opening bagged formula, promptly seal the bag, or transfer it to a clean, dry formula can for storage. Before use, wipe the can with a dry cloth, not recommended to wash with water, and it is advisable to consume it within about half a month.
Boxed formula usually contains bagged formula inside, with less tight sealing than canned ones. These formulas can also follow the storage method of bagged formula, seal the bag tightly after opening or transfer it to a formula can, and consume it within half a month as recommended.
Hygiene is the top priority in the preparation of formula. It is essential to wash hands before preparation to prevent bacterial contamination. Prepared formula is best consumed immediately. If not immediately consumed, it should not be left at room temperature for more than two hours and not refrigerated for more than 24 hours. Any remaining formula beyond these time limits should not be kept, and attempts to extend storage time using bottle warmers should be avoided.
